In today's incarnation of AsiaFortress player interviews, we have with us our resident tubby, Shounic.

i: Alright, to get started, when did you get into competitive TF2 and what made you want to join?

s: I remember the first competition I entered was AFL 5, but I started a bit before that. I remember stumbling upon the eXtv casts of complexity back in the day when he still had custom skins for the teams when he was casting. I think that was my first interaction with competitive TF2. Though I think the initial thought was "how good is the best TF2 player?", and it just so happens that there is such a thing as comp TF2

i: Anyway, onto the next question. Did you have the fortune of being trained in the first incarnation of AFA, or did you just learn in PuGs?

s: I didn't even know AFA existed back when I started. I only knew about the NA scene, so I was in TF2lobby trying to play at like, 200 ping? After a while I looked to see if there was an Asian scene in competitive TF2, and all thanks to google I started pugging a bit but I was obviously shit. So I stuck to watching videos, eXtv casts. I started as a soldier, haven't really changed. This was a pretty big jump from my 300 hours of pub pyro in some US server back then. nom nom nom US I think it's called

i: Do you think you would have benefited from AFA, and how were your experiences with the AsiaFortress PuGs?

s: Assuming AFA just taught the basics, I honestly don't think it would've helped me much, as the eXtv casts pretty much taught me everything, and anything extine didn't cover I saw from what the players were doing in the match. There were also plenty of things like rocket jumping videos on youtube, and a little bit of digging was enough for me to learn all the basics. Pugs back in my day was a medic fight at mid. I think sometimes I didn't roll quick enough, but mostly I played soldier. The people were pretty cool, and I payed attention to the names of people that were deemed good. Back then ripple had a sunbeams tyrant, that was cool. heartsqueen was a nice guy I remember, not sure where he is now. I also remembered Bing. Back then I was kind of an idiot and he didn't like me all that much. We got over it pretty quickly.

i: When you started playing, did you have a specific class in mind you wanted to play? A certain player you wanted to be like?

s: When I started I thought soldier was going to be the easiest; you could do a lot of damage, the aiming wasn't as hard as scout, and you could go fast! So soldier seemed like a good idea to me. And at the time when I was still pubbing on that US server, there was this guy called Whalerocket, and he was a pretty good soldier. I think that and the Jaeger airshots made me want to play soldier. It seemed to me that most of the great players were soldiers. I remember reading some online forums and people were tossing names like TLR, Platinum, Mackey, Reptile around a lot.

i: Before we continue, I have to warn you I'll be including at some point, a random question that will make your mind explode. Alright; how do you imagine any AsiaFortress team of your choice would fare at i49?

s: I think asians have dm comparable to AU, EU, and the NA people, but strategy-wise I think we're a bit behind.

i: What is your most immediate TF2 goal in the near future?

s: Well my summer break is coming up soon, so since that means no school, I'll probably be MGE'ing and pugging everyday and scrimming with my team when we can, watching the ESEA LAN Invite stv's that were recently put up. Basically get better. I don't think there's a particular area I'm bad in; as in, I don't have a strong focus on anything. But I think overall I'll have to work on teamwork more. And i think that's about it. Hit more airshots?

i: Are you happy with Steam Pipe?

s: Yes. Steam pipe overall was good, everything loads faster. I have been crashing more often because of it though, but it seems it's calmed down. I'm dissapointed valve didn't fix the mumble overlay yet though, and I want 110 fov.

i: Doesn't everyone? Anyway, did you ever load so slowly in PuGs you missed out on +1's?

s: No. Before steampipe, I was the first few to join most of the time. Now hasn't really changed though, just less waiting time.

i: Alright, it's time for the magic question! Do you wear the pants in your relationships?

s: Yes

i: Ok, moving on. What is your ultimate TF2 6v6 goal?

s: Have fun, win a competition maybe. I think that's really about it.

i: Do you feel any closer to that goal than you did half a year ago?

s: Well, definitely. Back when I started I would miss with rockets, get stomped in MGE, and burden the team a lot in PuGs. I can pretty safely say I've improved since I started.

i: Wrapping up, any last words? Er, I mean, any closing words? Rest assured we were certainly not thinking of subjecting you to a firing squad.

s: Ha, fuzz used humor.

i: It was super-effective!

s: I'll give shoutouts to my team, the past and current admins of AF, all the cool people I've met here, and the hours put into the AsiaFortress servers procastinating whatever work I have to do. And fuzz you should sit down.

i: What can I say, this interview has kept me on the edge of my seat.

s: Special shoutout to jigglesaur's 2 week adventure in Australia.

i: Thanks for your time. You have been shounic, and I have been Admiral Fuzzbeard. Good night.

Randomly for the most part. Being an interesting or skilled player is a bit of a factor.

ABIT of a factor, just A LITTLE BIT...
