Eh, most people play fairly seriously. Some of the older players set a bad example by doing silly things because they can get away with them and still win. How many new players like lonewolf will you see on average? I can't even think of anyone off the top of my head who will keep screwing around and not change class when a more experienced player tells them to. On the other hand, I can name(but I won't) more than a few experienced players that will almost 100% offclass on a regular basis despite them being completely useless half the time. Also, what Summer said.

I don't know about there being plenty of new players, but I've seen a lot of them. Either way, it's kind of irrelevant since quality is the aim, I assume, and that can't be judged so early.

Both the pugs in which I mentored today, at least 2-3 were comming, listening to commands(maybe a little slowly) and asked what they were doing wrong after. Yes, the picking was slow, and people asked for subs and switched around too much for my liking, but it wasn't a big deal. I do think people are taking this seriously enough. You might want to make it clear to whom you're responding >_>

And I pointed out that there's nothing you can do about that. Maybe the problem there is the mentors not taking an active enough role in micro-managing the team and getting them to play seriously. If that isn't the issue, and people are just fooling around, simply revise the rules and add something regarding temporary bans for pointless offclassing, generally silliness, etc. Once again though, difficult to enforce, and more difficult to ascertain(later) whether the action taken was appropriate or not. An interesting watch for people wanting to mentor: Also, ban Caldoran. Lastly, while conscious effort and self-analysis is the best way to improve, you can't expect 1-week old pug players to be settled into routines(rollout, heal orders, basic positions, movement, aim, etc) well enough that they can focus on improving their co-ordination and gamesense.

Whoa there. Sure you can advise people and tell them how to improve, but whether or not they take the time and effort to improve is not upto you. If you feel like your time is being wasted mentoring people, don't mentor. It really is as simple as that. I've mentored a few people on my own time, but do I care, or will I stop mentoring because some of them barely play any more, or have quit 6v6/TF2? No, because it makes no sense having to needlessly worry about something completely out of your control.

I mentored things the other day! Er, not things. People. Onto kig's post, are you talking about medics in general or medic mentors for AFA? A rule like that is hard to enforce, and even if you do manage to get enough admins around to enforce it, what kind of punishment do you envision? I'd be more in favour of a "Be nice to medics" guideline that could be pasted on various AF-related internet pages.

being a friendly Chap !-Friendliness and such

Just keep playing and take advice from good players. Most people are fairly nice, but tend to get a little frustrated when new guys roll last and can't med well. Just get a key bound to join spec and try to run to spec fast during pugs.

jR. in a Moments of Glory video!

Oooh, I was in spec when this one happened.
  14. Just a wild guess, I'd say top div 1 AFL teams are probably mid-low div 2 ETF2L, maybe high div 3. I'm probably not the best person to ask.

    Back to the roots

Wow, I had the silliest grin on my face through the entirety of this thing. Just by virtue of it being a callback to the Quake days, I'd have to say this is easily one of the better frag videos I've seen. Good job!
  17. I'd like to make a suggestion for a rule that will be more fair(in certain cases) and overall speed up the picking process during pugs. "Med captains are limited to picking PLAYERS CURRENTLY IN THE SERVER." On countless occasions you'll see a med captain endlessly wasting everyone's time so he/she can get a friend in to stack, play med for them, or what have you. For example, if someone joins the server right after the BLU med captain has picked, that player is eligible to be picked. Of course you'll have people attempting to drag the picking stage on for things like this(pretending to be afk, etc), but it would be nice to have this rule enforced within a specific time limit(maybe 1-2 minutes max for a pick?) when admins are around, at least.

Demo recording in tf2 for mac??!!!

  19. I really don't think the "pick people who rolled" rule is official. Just like the "medfight winner gets free pick" "rule". From what I've seen, "pick people who rolled" is sort of an agreement between team captains to pick people who rolled and have possibly been waiting(assuming it's a new PuG) rather than people who've just joined. If it actually is a rule, I would recommend having these things discussed and confirmed on the forums first rather than arbitrarily enforcing new rules with no way for a random person to ascertain whether or not they're legitimate.

State of TF2 Competitive scene [Asia]

I'm probably far too new to comment much, but if my memory from lurking the forums occasionally serves me, the AFL 4 period was when it seemed like the scene was dying. I certinaly can't say whether or not there are more active teams now than there used to be, but I think the active playerbase(at least in pugs) has grown and is still growing. Just having a bigger pug playerbase means a greater number of people will potentially want more and eventually start/join teams. I think people are aware of this, but there are(or were) a few bad apples who think "trial by fire" style rites-of-initiation, raging without constructively criticising, and just being generally hostile to new people will help get new people in. My advice in general to new 6v6 players is to take whatever anyone(who's good) says and analyse it. Strip out the insults/attitude and focus on anything constructive or useful. If there's nothing useful, and it's just insults or rage, ignore it entirely, and don't take offense. Another thing; don't write people off for one incident. Everyone has their bad days and says things they wouldn't normally say. On the other hand, if the person has a track record of negative interactions or incidents, keep your distance and ignore, rather than feed the troll. Wasn't registration for AFL 5 closer to 20, and Merc Cup closer to 11?

    Need help!

Make sure you read this guide first if you haven't already: http://asiafortress....complete-guide/ Passwords are generally 'aflmatch' for AsiaFortress servers and 'eclubmatch' for Eclub servers.

    AF Amateur Cup

I felt sort of the same way about SVF as spammah does until I realised that they're not splitting up the community, but providing an avenue(intentionally or not is irrelevant) for people that may be intimidated by the AF scene to get in with more experience/recognition than new guys who just wander into 6v6 and have no idea what to do, who then get discouraged because no one knows them from anywhere else and never help them out. When some of the HighLander guys started playing PuGs recently, they at least had enough gamesense(barring medic) to play competently and didn't get completely raged at the way new 6v6'ers get raged at by everyone. So my stance on SVF; their events may not always appeal to me personally, but I think their efforts to give Asian TF2 another strong community(one that will possibly be less apprehensive about getting into 6v6) are great.

    movement

If you play pretty much only demoman, use a higher sensitivity since you'll rarely need small, accurate cursor motions. Also play MGEmod and practice movement there.
