Christmas and the New Year is almost upon us, and our Administrator and Staff Team has just finished running both the Top Gun MGE Tournament and AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes 2015. As such, it's the perfect time for a news post to both wrap up said events and cover our plans for the near future! Without further ado… Top Gun MGE Tourney Conclusion It’s been a long time coming, but the inaugural Top Gun MGE Tournament has finally come to a close, and so we’d like to formally announce the winners for both the Scout and Soldier divisions! Scout 1st Place: larkyy 2nd Place: tommy 3rd Place: Sphere (Choo Choo) Soldier 1st Place: oro 2nd Place: slyr 3rd Place: Gordan The 2nd and 3rd place winners were awarded 2 keys and 1 key respectively, while the champions earned a lot of salt Professional Killstreak Weapon and the tags [scatter-Lord] and [Rocketeer] on both Shana and AsiaFortress MGE servers. Congratulations! We’d like to thank all those who participated, especially our Competition Administrator Gothmog, who both sponsored the prizes and coordinated the event for others' enjoyment. Congratulations everyone! AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes Conclusion Meanwhile, the latest (but definitely not the last!) edition of AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes just happened, and it was bigger than ever! We received over double the number of signups of last year's Mash — so many that we had to split the Mash teams into two groups! While this did cause some slight technical difficulties along the way, we managed to form a grand total of twelve teams, almost all of which got to play through the whole event. Ultimately, Xiao Team claimed victory in Group A without dropping a single map, while Team Boleh had a record almost as stellar, only tying once against Team Meme. Well done to both teams! However as per the old adage, it’s not the destination, but the journey that’s important. We hope that all of the mentees had fun and learned something from the event about 6v6, and got the opportunity to know a little more about the AF community. Our Head Administrator and overall manager of the event, Caldoran, said that he’s “thankful for my admin/staff team, the mentors, the players and the backups for making the event a success”. And indeed, every individual who showed up, mentor or mentee, deserves thanks for dedicating their day bringing the event to life. But the unsung heroes of the event were both Teejay and Caldoran himself. These two champions ran the whole show, behind the scenes, preparing the entire event and acquiring substitutes almost immediately. Registrations for MC begin in the first week of January 2016, so start gathering your players for teams and prepare for another great series of matches. We had at least 80 participants in total playing the matches, making it our biggest Mash Potatoes yet! In the end, all matches were played within schedule, and we wrapped up the event in a timely manner. I'd like to personally thank my Administrator and Staff Team (especially Teejay) and the Mentors/Backup Mentors for their tremendous effort and help in helping to manage the event. I'd also like to thank the participants for coming on time, as well as the backups who helped substitute players that didn't show up or had to go. I hope everyone involved had fun, and that the newcomers learned more about 6v6 from the event! To assist us in making improvements for the next Mash and other future events, I'd like to invite you to give us your honest feedback for the event. Guide them through installing Mumble if they're still having difficulty and ensure they have it properly set up before the event starts, and answer any doubts and queries they may have. As always, if you're not sure of anything or require assistance, feel free to contact Caldoran on Steam. What's going to happen on the day? By 2:30 PM GMT+8 on December 12th 2015, all players should be ready in Mumble. After the initial briefing, all team mentors will direct their team's players to the correct server. Each team will play a total of 5 maps during the event. Mentors should refer to this page for the match schedule as well as which servers to use. All of the maps will be played with standard AsiaFortress rules. After each map, the mentors will direct the team's players to the next server until all 5 maps are played and the event is over. Match results, inclusive of round scores, can be communicated to the Administrators via Steam chat or Mumble. Finals can be played between teams at their discretion. Backups will be needed if a player or mentor has to go mid-game. Chances will be increased if the backup is already waiting in Mumble. I can't play anymore / I have to go halfway during the event! Please inform your mentors or an administrator as soon as possible so we can find a replacement with minimal delay. My mentor is being mean / There's a newcomer in my team throwing! Inform Caldoran at the earliest opportunity so we could resolve the situation. If you don't speak up, we won't know. We will take the appropriate action if necessary. Banner by Blobinet and Cell AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes 2015 Registration and Rules Not sure what Mash is? This post is for registration only. If you have any questions, direct them here! The rules are as follows. Please take the time to read through them to avoid any potential miscommunication and confusion. Date and Time You are expected to show up on Saturday, 12th December 2015 at 2:30 PM GMT+8 sharp. We will begin the event promptly and latecomers/no-shows may be made to sit out. The Round Robin sequence is conservatively expected to end around 6:00 PM GMT+8 with breaks in between if the schedule permits. Please ensure that you are available for the entire duration of the event. If time permits and the teams are agreeable, the Finals can be played on the same day. Otherwise, the teams will be allowed to decide amongst themselves when to play the Finals. Format Participants will be matched with each other based on their skill level to ensure the teams are balanced. Each team will consist of 4 newcomers and 2 experienced mentors. Teams will play against each other in a Round Robin format. In other words, every team will play against each other exactly once. Each round will be played on one map with standard AFL rules. At the end of the Round Robin sequence, the teams will enter the Grand Finals to determine their final placements. The first and second ranked team (based on Match Wins) will compete against each other in a Best of 3 for the title of Grand Champions, while the third and fourth ranked team will do the same for Third Place. Attitude and Conduct Players are expected to display the right attitude for learning. That means strictly no throwing or griefing during the duration of the event. If at any point during the event a mentor feels that a player is behaving in a way that is detrimental to the other players’ learning experiences, they have the right to request that the offending player be removed from the event, with approval from an Administrator. With that said, the mood of the event is largely lighthearted and casual. While we want to avoid having to remove any player for poor conduct, we will be forced to if necessary. Mumble Mumble is a voice chat program and is compulsory for this event. Welcome to the third iteration of our annual Mash Potatoes tournament! Want to meatshot like Teejay? Airshot like 26? "Nyaa" like helig or cook curry like natapon? Or maybe even crossbow everyone like W40klife? Well, we can help you get there! AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to the competitive 6v6 format and our community. You’ll play matches in a friendly environment and still learn something new! What is AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes? Let’s face it, 6v6 can be an extremely confusing gamemode. When should a roamer bomb in? When should Scouts clean up? When should you take an Über fight and when should you run away? AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes is where we help new players familiarize themselves with the format and move along the path to become a better player. Teams of new players are pitted against each other in a tournament format, with the aid of helpful and experienced mentors. These mentors will personally play alongside the new players and guide them on what it takes to function in a proper 6v6 game, without the raging criticism! How do I participate? First of all, you need to sign up as an individual here. After you sign up, you’ll be sorted into a team based on your skill level to ensure, as far as possible, all participating teams are on even ground. You will be allowed to name the 6v6 cookie-cutter classes you’d prefer to play (i.e. Scout, Pocket Soldier, Roamer Soldier, Demo or Medic). As much as possible, we’ll try to accommodate your preferences, but in the event we’re unable to, you will be asked to play a different class instead. Yes, you can request to switch classes with the teammates you are grouped with! Who are the players I will play with, and how many teams will there be? There will be 4 new players and 2 mentors per team. The teams will then battle each other in a Round Robin format first to determine their rankings before proceeding to the Grand Finals to determine final placement. This year, we have planned to have 4 teams, but if we greatly exceed the expected number of sign-ups then we may have additional teams! Priority will be given to players newer to the community and format, while the rest may be asked to act as backup for any missing players or mentors. Welcome to the third iteration of our annual Mash Potatoes tournament! Want to meatshot like Teejay? Airshot like 26? "Nyaa" like helig or cook curry like natapon? Or maybe even crossbow everyone like W40klife? Well, we can help you get there! AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to the competitive 6v6 format and our community. You’ll play matches in a friendly environment and still learn something new! What is AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes? Let’s face it, 6v6 can be an extremely confusing gamemode. When should a roamer bomb in? When should Scouts clean up? When should you take an Über fight and when should you run away? AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes is where we help new players familiarize themselves with the format and move along the path to become a better player. Teams of new players are pitted against each other in a tournament format, with the aid of helpful and experienced mentors. These mentors will personally play alongside the new players and guide them on what it takes to function in a proper 6v6 game, without the raging criticism! How do I participate? First of all, you need to sign up as an individual here. After you sign up, you’ll be sorted into a team based on your skill level to ensure, as far as possible, all participating teams are on even ground. You will be allowed to name the 6v6 cookie-cutter classes you’d prefer to play (i.e. Scout, Pocket Soldier, Roamer Soldier, Demo or Medic). As much as possible, we’ll try to accommodate your preferences, but in the event we’re unable to, you will be asked to play a different class instead. Yes, you can request to switch classes with the teammates you are grouped with! Who are the players I will play with, and how many teams will there be? There will be 4 new players and 2 mentors per team. The teams will then battle each other in a Round Robin format first to determine their rankings before proceeding to the Grand Finals to determine final placement. This year, we have planned to have 4 teams, but if we greatly exceed the expected number of sign-ups then we may have additional teams! Priority will be given to players newer to the community and format, while the rest may be asked to act as backup for any missing players or mentors. Banner by Blobinet and Cell AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes 2015 FAQ and Guidelines Thank you for participating in the third annual AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes! As we are doing things quite differently this year, please take the time to read through this guide in order to familiarize yourself with what is going to happen. While we want to keep the event lighthearted and casual, we also wish to ensure it goes smoothly as well as remain a conducive learning environment for all players involved. With that in mind, all players involved are expected to adhere to the following: You are expected to show up punctually on 12th December 2015, 2:30 PM GMT+8. Your commitment to attending on time is crucial, as latecomers and no-shows can severely impact the flow of the event If you cannot make it or will be late, please let us know ASAP either by posting in the forums or contacting a mentor/Administrator so we could find a replacement You should add everyone in your team to your friends list for easier communication and coordination, especially mentors Griefing, throwing and harassing will not be tolerated Players who are intentionally being a nuisance will be removed from the event Intentionally ignoring teammates and mentors in Mumble may be regarded as griefing - If you have trouble listening on Mumble then let your team’s mentor know ASAP Mentors are also expected to handle the teams calmly and fairly - excessive rage is not acceptable towards the new players Mumble is compulsory for this event. If you require assistance getting or connecting, refer to the guide below. Do try to connect before the event itself to avoid any delays or last-minute problems. Any disputes, whether it be suspicion of cheating or regarding another player’s behaviour, should go directly to an Administrator present at the event. Keep drama to a minimum. Administrators to Contact Caldoran - Overall-in-Charge Teejay - Coordinator Contact us if you have any issues or questions regarding the event. Because I will also be playing during the event as a Mentor, do contact Teejay instead if I am playing. Teams To be announced… Match Brackets To be announced... Mumble: What It Is and How to Connect Mumble is a chat program widely used by gamers. Amongst other benefits, it has very low lag, an in-game overlay, and support for chat channels. AsiaFortress has an official Mumble server, which we will be using for Mash Potatoes 2015. Reminder: Mumble is compulsory for this event, and we will not begin the event until every player is in. To get Mumble, follow this link and select the right version for your OS under Stable Release. After going through the installation, open up Mumble and complete the Audio Setup. At the top left of the screen you will see the Server button. Click on it and select Connect. After selecting Connect, a window will pop up. Select Add New… at the bottom and fill in the details as below. Click OK and then Connect at the bottom of the window. Upon connecting, you will see many channels. Look for the one at the top named AsiaFortress Mash Potatoes 2015. Look for your team’s channel under it. If you cannot find it, you can try expanding the channel by clicking on the arrow beside its name. Once again, if you are having difficulty connecting to the Mumble, then feel free to contact either your team’s mentors or an Administrator. As a Player As a player, your role is simple - learn! The mentors will guide you along through the event, as well as in-game, so simply take in everything they have to teach you and improve your gameplay. Add your mentors and teammates to your friends list! If you have any questions or doubts, just ask! Now is the perfect time with mentors personally helping you and other newcomers out. Try not to argue with your teammates or mentors - but if you have any dispute you wish to resolve then you can privately message either your mentors or an Administrator. In severe cases we may consider swapping you into a different team if necessary. As a Mentor As a mentor, your role is...not so simple. But not to worry, it’s still manageable! You are responsible for teaching the newcomers in your team, as well as manage them in joining Mumble, changing servers, etc. Along the way, encourage them to ask questions and participate in comms. Add them on Steam, as well as your fellow mentor! You are also responsible for coordinating between your team and the Administrators, including the reporting of scores and settling any latecomers/no-shows. While dealing with so many newcomers at once is understandably frustrating, please maintain your cool and avoid raging at them. Remember, they are in this event because they have little experience in the 6v6 format! Try your best to keep the environment lighthearted and casual. Any players repeatedly being a nuisance can be removed from the event at your request. Contact an Administrator for approval and they will take the appropriate action. If at any point you are unsure of what to do or need instructions, feel free to contact an Administrator for help. As a Backup or Backup Mentor You have been allocated to be a Backup or Backup Mentor because your skill level is too high to be placed in one of the teams without imbalancing it, there are too many players and/or you have high ping to AsiaFortress servers. But don’t fret! In the event a player or mentor does not show up or is unable to play, then you will be given a chance to play in their place. All the guidelines for players and mentor respectively will apply to you. Backups will be allocated to play at an Administrator's discretion. Stay in the Mumble channel and/or be online on Steam to have a higher chance of being picked. Conclusion And that’s the end of the FAQ and Guidelines! Hello! If you're interested in joining but am not sure about whether you are able to commit, we can add you to the list of backups. In other words, if a player on any team is unable to make it or doesn't show up, then you will take over their place if you are available. So go ahead and sign up, and leave a note in your registration saying that you're unable to confirm your availability so you'll have a chance to play as backup.

Hello and welcome to AsiaFortress You can sign up for tournaments by either creating or joining a team and posting in the respective registration thread. Different tournaments have different requirements and commitments - usually matches would be played once a week.
