dont listen to these scrubs. study hard for your prelims, it affects your predicted grades and thereby your acceptance into uni. it's also a good gauge of how much harder you have to work for a levels itself.
  7. Due to overwhelming response, SIGNUPS HAVE CLOSED. Due to overwhelming response, SIGNUPS HAVE CLOSED. Thanks for your interest anyway http://i.imgur.com/gRLZP.jpg[/img] What is Asiafortress Academy (AFA)? In short, it’s a friendly and easy avenue for players new to the competitive scene to dabble in 6v6 TF2, without getting steamrolled or raged at by more experienced players. We’re aware that some of the more experienced players in the community can be rather mean and intimidating, so we intend for AFA to be a less stressful training ground for newbies. AFA will have an Academy PUG (Pickup Game) server set aside specially for it, where newbies can try their hand at competitive 6v6 TF2 playing against others of similar standard and experience. More experienced players will not be allowed in the server, unless they are offering to mentor newer players. Like the other PUG servers, pickup games starting in AFA will be announced via the Steam Group. Do join to receive these notices! Who can be part of AFA? Only players who are new to competitive, 6v6 TF2 are allowed to play in AFA PUGs. This includes players who have never tried PUGs/scrims before, as well as some players who’ve tried it but feel that they could use some help getting better. If you’re not sure whether you fall into this category, do check with our friendly admins, Emir and Kig, if you can play in AFA PUGs. Experienced players may also volunteer to mentor these newer players. Mentoring is only as heavy a commitment as you want it to be; you could choose to do something as simple as answering questions, or even as dedicated as adopting a team/player and guiding them through all their games. Approach Emir or Kig if you’re interested. Admins will check the group regularly to ensure that only newer players participate in the AFA PUGs. Action will be taken against those who attempt to troll or ruin the game experience for the newer players. What happens at the launch of the AFA server? You'll get to be part of the very first AFA PUG! We’ll also have friendly mentors on hand who’ll show you the basics of 6v6 TF2, and how to play each class in a PUG. It’s a great chance to get to know them, so you can ask them to help you later on. How do I sign up? Simply post a reply in this thread, saying you’re interested. You’re also highly encouraged to read this Introductory Guide to 6v6 to prepare yourself. What do I need? Passion Determination Willingness to improve Ability to take criticism Most importantly, you'll need Mumble. You don’t even need a mic, you just need to be in Mumble for ease of communication. Installing Mumble: Download Mumble from here. Install Mumble and follow the instructions to setting up your mic. At the top left, click "Server", then "Connect". You'll see something like this: http://i.imgur.com/xs6Gb.jpg[/img] Click on "Add New..." and copy the same details seen in the picture. In case you can't see, Server IP is 203.116.80.201 and Port is 64738. Click "OK", then "Connect". You're in Mumble! Double click on channel names to join them. Join the Asiafortress Academy channel and wait for it to start! If you have any other questions, post them in the AFA Queries thread. This thread is only meant for signups!
  8. You'll just have to look for people. That's the whole point of the Steam Group, so you can easily find people who are willing to help. We have mentors for each class, but pretty much anyone can teach you how a class should be played by beginners. (yes, that'll be fine)
  9. Nope! The launch event is just a one-day thing where we'll have multiple servers running AFA PUGs, as well as having mentors around to actually watch and coach you on the spot. It's perfectly fine if you can't make it. After the launch day, AFA PUGs will only run on the AFA server; the other servers are for normal PUGs (which you are free to join if you feel brave enough). Also, it's unlikely you'll have so many mentors available at the same time & place on any other day Do note, though, that the sign-up thread is only for those who wish to attend the launch event. If you can't make it, please do remove your post.
  10. @Stuyk: Ask him, if he's fine with it, i don't see why not. @Styruhfoam: The Mumble server IP is already posted in the Info Thread. We'll announce the server IP of the AFA server prior to the event, so keep checking back on the front page. In short, you'll join the Starhub E-Club Mumble server first, get in the Mumble Channel, chit-chat a bit, then everyone will join the server(s) in TF2. Time zone is GMT+8, so that should also be 3.00pm in Malaysia
  11. they got everything right but the most important one: boobs
  12. if you're curious what class is best for you, here's some advice from Flare:

    Lower level pug?

yes otzi, you should go ahead and sign up. also, if you'd like to help spread the word, just ask your pubber friends if they're interested in doing this. we're already very pleased with the response so far (30 people!!), but we're willing to take in more. surely you've made some friends just playing in public servers, maybe you're a regular to a particular server (agentcy, lowyat, starhub golddust4ever, etc); as long as you know any other pub players, you can ask them if they're interested to learn 6v6. that said, dont try and force your friends to do it. 6v6 requires a slightly higher level of dedication to the game, in that you'll probably have to play more to get better. not everyone wants to or will enjoy it; some people are perfectly content just being pubstars and stomping everyone else in pubs. that's perfectly fine. most importantly, you shouldn't feel superior to people who choose pubs over 6v6; everyone has their own cup of tea.

    viewmodel off/on?

i play scout with viewmodel off, the scattergun tends to restrict my view imo. heavy also, the big muzzleflash is very distracting. everything else, i like viewmodel

    Server admins

hi, i wasn't there, so i don't know what you mean by "abused votemenu". also, i dont have any admin powers on the server -.- so i can't do anything to help you guys when these issues crop up.
  18. I'm afraid not.. You already are part of an actively scrimming team, that should be good enough to help you improve. furthermore, i've played with you a few times in PUGs, you're a decent player and definitely not a noob. Bear in mind this is directed at people who've never pugged before/have only recently just started pugging.
  19. i'm afraid i've never encountered this problem, can't help you there sorry
  20. No. You never really lose a sense of how to play, and if your aim is rusty, go play pubs or mge. Being "rusty" is no excuse to bully newcomers who genuinely want to learn the game.
  21. @Flare: Sure! Just join the Steam Group. To everyone who wants to be a mentor: Just tell Emir or Kig that you'd like to be a mentor, and then join the Steam Group. We'll make you admins of the group @Bigfoot & Darkie: Mumble IS compulsory. I'll remind everyone of this in a later post. And yeah, i was intending to split the channels in that manner. Easier to link the sub-channels too, if we wanna speak to both teams at the same time.
