TF2 on SteamPipe: Everything* you need to know!
iridescentFUZZ replied to iridescentFUZZ's topic in News & Announcements
Changelog from a recent update from Valve. * Significantly reduced memory usage. (I believe that this was causing a lot of instability) * Added kludge so you won't get banned if you join a serve with an out-of-date SMAC plugin * Fixed custom hit sounds being blocked by sv_pure -
TF2 on SteamPipe: Everything* you need to know!
iridescentFUZZ replied to iridescentFUZZ's topic in News & Announcements
This is true. Beware, though. SourceMod Anti-Cheat is erroneously detecting steampipe clients as cheaters and banning them. Tell all the server admins you know to update to the latest version of SourceMod. Also, remember that if you opt in now, your P-REC will not work. The later your game files are converted(30th is the latest), the more P-REC usage you get. Edited the main post. -
Set an entry fee of 1-2 refined per team. That should give a decent prize pool.

Wanting to play roamer is probably the best for someone who doesn't have the greatest aim. These days, with gunboats, your job as roamer is to jump at a group of enemies(preferably take height advantage; crates on badlands mid, enemy shack on snakewater mid, enemy crates/ramp on granary) during a teamfight, shoot two rockets at the biggest cluster of enemies(or the enemy who is pressuring your team most; demo, maybe) and then jump out and go back to your team if the fight is going badly, or go behind them if it's going well. There are many variations and situational changes you could make to the above tactic, but that's the general idea. Obviously you still need to be able to bomb effectively, which means you need to be able to get a medic/demo kill with 3 rockets at best, so go play MGE. Play 10-15 minutes of MGE before you join a PuG every day, and play MGE when there are no PuGs running.

You didn't need two topics for a recruitment post. You're also not really going to have much luck if no one has seen you play PuGs.

Nothing wrong with walls of text where appropriate. I did assume this was some sort of "Rules thread for newbies", rather than an informal post. Additionally I personally wouldn't put a rules thread in the guides and mentoring section, on account of visibility, and the fact that a rules thread isn't really a guide, but that's besides the point. All I'm saying is you're preaching to the choir here. Having had a reasonable amount of experience with newer players(assuming your intended readers are newbies), I don't think the ones that end up reading this are going to take as much away from this thread as they could if the points were put across differently. No offense meant, but that's just my take on the whole thing.

To reiterate what others have said, there shouldn't have to be a censored and uncensored version. Get across what you're trying to say without resorting to swearing, or this "List of rules" or whatever it's supposed to be is going to look very unprofessional, and consequently unimportant to newer players. Secondly, if this is supposed to be informative/helpful to new players you are absolutely going to have to make it more concise, and split your current points further. At the moment, it's a couple of paragraphs short of a wall of text. It's not important for the new players to understand the reasoning behind why rules and etiquette are the way they are, they just need to understand that there are rules and etiquette they must follow. In short, if you intend for this to be more impactful, make more points if you must, but make them 1-2 line points, mostly devoid of emotion. Uh, if a player leaves when there are 6 a side(pre-roll or during roll), the mod reverts to warmup. Poor Joe

AsiaFortress Player Interviews #2 - adelante the simple man
iridescentFUZZ posted a topic in Archive
The AsiaFortress Interview series continues with the self-proclaimed simple man who some(and by some, I mean myself) call the robot. Adel the robot. i: Since winning division two in AFC6, you've moved to a division one team. Do you feel a lot more pressured now, and how have you kept up with the team? a: No pressure, all friends, adept with the playstyle. i: How did you end up with your current team? a: Old friends, they wanted me to join them long ago already. i: You used to play demoman a long time ago. What, or who made you switch over to scout? a: I was scout before demoman. I only tried demoman for one season to see how it worked out, and well, it worked out... okay.... but I'd rather scout, haha. i: Oh, alright. You seem to have been a bit inactive recently. Trying out other games, or just plain busy? a: Playing other games, and busy with real life stuff, exams, friends and school. Mostly drinking though i: Haha, I thought so. How long before you have to enlist? a: No clue mate, soon I guess. The mail hasn't arrived yet. i: So you and summer will be joining at around the same time hopefully? a: Yea pretty much. i: Do you think you'll come back to TF2 after you're finished, and do you plan to play occasionally while you're still in NS? a: Play occasionally? Most probably I'll play seldom, and I MAY come back and play casually after NS since I'm going to study overseas for my university. Maybe I can try the leagues over there in aus i: Well, at least you won't be too far away in AU, haha. What do you think of the community and players at present? Have we progressed in terms of skill, player growth and attitude towards newer players? a: Player growth good, old players attitude to new players could be nicer, community wise overall? I'm not too sure, haven't been keeping up but I guess I have no complaints. i: In a recent post, madman stated he wanted to get the new players and AFA 'graduates' out of division 3 skill levels so we can go back to having two divisions again. What do you think about doing that? a: I guess if we have dedicated people to help coach and teach the newer players, then it's a pretty good idea. Keep the learning ongoing and not just let them play pugs at their stagnant level of just killing each other and not knowing about advantages. i: Throwing a random question out there; would you like to see a nature documentary style video on spammah, preferably narrated by someone who can do a Steve Irwin or David Attenborough accent? a: Definitely. i: You play dota 2 with the secrets guys if I'm not mistaken. Do you play at a competitive level? a: Yea we do, but not under the name secret, but n$4w (no money for wards, best team btw) and yea we do play on a competitive level, online and local tourneys, whatever we can attend. i: I see. Did you guys consider going for the OGM tournament that I heard was held this month? a: OGM? I didn;t hear about it but if it was held this month then we probably couldn't have made it anyways since our captain russ is overseas. i: Oh, right. So does russ do the calling for both TF2 and dota? a: TF2, we all make our own calls. For dota 2, usually is him, yes, haha....mr rager... i: Alright then, I think we can finish up with this interview. Anyone you'd like to thank, any players you want to call out? a: I'd like to thank all the good friends out there in the community, especially all those players whom I'd played with in my previous teams, except spammah, <3 spammah, lord camel. Also, I am a simple man. i: Thanks for taking the time for this interview! -

A perfect specimen of the reclusive LoL babby in its natural habitat.

Notice the dexterity with which he walks across the rocky desert floor and magnificently air-surfs off an incoming rocket through the arid winds, straight into yet another rocket. It is little wonder that the LoL babby is a highly endangered species, a threat to its own existence. We love you spammah. -

I for one would like to thank spammah for his innumerable contributions to the community, even in the face of the many challenges he encounters from day to day, on account of being a blurry-eyed LoL babby. -

Hahahaha. I couldn't get sleep last night because I kept thinking of a nature documentary on the LoL babby and would burst out laughing randomly. -

nata was supposed to remove that a long time ago. Someone who's online the next time he tests the new feature he's planning to add, remind him please. Can't guarantee I'll be there myself. -

I agree with this. It's all well and good when you troll people to make them perform or fit in, or whatever, but when people do it so much that our competitive hopefuls become trolls themselves, something's wrong. I hate to say it, but I put the blame for creating trolls like pearbombs, mamamia and SMB solely on spammah :> Have a nice day, camel! -
