    PSA: Offclassing in AF pugs

Who is going to be the figure of authority so pro at all kinds of tf2 past present and future to lay down such a guideline? And what of a case where a player is acting in accordance with said guideline but the team still feels that an off-class isn't helping the current situation? Making more rules to throw at each other and more rules to hide behind is being draconian. Kicking players without a proper explanation is not draconian, that is being a dick and that is exactly what I'm appealing against here.

    PSA: Offclassing in AF pugs

I think neither of your solutions will work practically, and even if they did they are rather draconian. This cannot be solved by a one-time ruling by admins but must be done over time by all players to tell others nicely when they are offending since there are an infinite amount of permutations of where/when to offclass/not offclass. In each and every situation, each and every pug: people who 'know' must tell, and people who are told must listen. And thats what I'm trying to request here.

    HL MIXES ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT

I envision a future where all the highlander players can gather at a single point (like a website or mobile app) and easily browse through available games and join games that they are free to play; as well as pick their own date/time to host their own games. Multiple games can be taking sign-ups at any one time and players can sign up for multiple games (as long as the timeslots do not clash). How soon this future is depends on how many talented programmers are amongst you. I need willing coders familiar with the following to message me: -HTML5 -MySQL (and sqlmyadmin) -CSS -PHP -AJAX (with PHP) -CURL (PHP) -XAMPP (or WAMP) -IPB hooks -mIRC (if you have bot knowledge that will be DOPE) Optional: -Java if you wanna make an android app or XCODE for macfags If you're willing to be a slave to the community and one or more of the above makes sense to you let me know. xx

    Concerns about attitudes of players

Good thread, all of you. my 2c is that most crap play, and by extension rage, can be rectified by using your mic. Even if you have to go so far as to tell them where to stand and why (what kind of advs). In the long run it will help everyone improve. It doesn't even matter if your gamesense is bad, if a new guy is as bad as everyone makes him out to be then your B grade calls will still be a league better than an F-. I find it mildly amusing that people use their mics to troll and joke and sing but nobody makes any calls. Since nobody types either; its almost like communication in competitive games is optional. (Hint: its not)

Got banned in PUG by losing connection

It was the 4th of Nov, not the 3rd. Either way your ban has expired. You were banned for five minutes.

    Next Highlander Season

Our highlander seasons are basically tied in with UGC's asian division, the next season should start early 2013 with registrations starting before that. If you're looking to get your hands dirty you could start by signing up for our weekly games.

  10. I don't think my story is entirely applicable since it predates the modern highlander scene but who gives a shit eh... My first foray into highlander was back in August(?) 2010 when ETF2L first announced that they would have in-game medals. The concept of items in TF2 was still relatively new and so you can imagine how an in-game medal would be a big deal- or at least a big enough of a deal that we played in 400 ping. At this time there weren't any 9v9 games ever in the region and nobody had any experience with 9v9, so I just gathered a couple of my friends to form team madarchod, I don't even remember who played but it included canlah2, xeon, sud, krypt, cee, hsirt and naTTan. The official ruling was that competitive players were not allowed to join highlander but we reasoned that they meant Euro players- and we were technically public players since 6v6 was off-season and had been off-season for a long, long time then. We won a couple of games and I maintain that we wouldve gone ahead to win the medals if only we had bothered to wake up at four in the morning to finish our games. As for the current batch of 9v9ers, I think it started when we held the AFL publanders tournament (I still have the amateur recorded casts of literally the first 9v9 game in asia!). It was this tournament that brought together the pioneer highlander teams ! and VS together and soon after this Tabi started hosting 9v9s on his listen server. This small community of players helped lay the foundation for not only my 6v6 team ikea stickies which went on to win AFLV but also for starting SVF itself. The rest, they say, is history.

State of TF2 Competitive scene [Asia]

Even as early as 2010 there were already countless mouthbreathers who repeatedly told everyone the community was dying and it was time to get out. Let's not forget this guy either. If you ever want to know the current state of things, you must always look back at our glorious history and you will quickly learn that in the past things were not so different as they are today. And we're still here. AFL has survived much worse inactivity and much more than just inactivity. I mean, we had an entire three-way server grudge war. And yet, in spite of all that, there were always people who were willing to build build build. And finally, don't be so pessimistic. It always looks shit, and yet when you look back you'd definitely find some damn good times. Don't mind me digging up old posts. I was bored.

    Mercenaries Cup 3 is coming

Its the Mercs Cup because in the original incarnation there was no team directory implemented, you could take whoever the fuck you wanted into battle not necessarily from your team, hence, a team of mercs. Also, I was listening to the mercenary by iron maiden when I typed up the event.

Please allow the Boston Basher :(

I believe the best policy with unlocks is to find a scrim where both sides agree to lift restrictions on a certain unlock, play it out and ask yourself if you really want to see this in-game. I used to wield a three-rune blade as a way of sneaking the basher under the whitelist and one of the most ridiculously overpowered things you could do is backcap granmid then when confronted, disappear behind a crate for a moment and get to the top using the basher. You can do so with full health because of the pill and now you're sure to beat the sollies that are already low from RJing to get you. Also, being a heavy user of the bat despite the general opinion that its useless, I can safely say its really easy to score a single hit on the enemy scout which will take off a really good 60-70 dmg (initial + bleed). You have to ask yourself whether you want a situation where every scout fight will revolve around starting a bleed, unlocks are meant to complement and add to your options, not cut it down. I think its too gimmicky to ezmode your face out of a good duel. But, try it yourself.

Please allow the Boston Basher :(

To add on, the trickjumps are VERY viable as a scout.

Please allow the Boston Basher :(

Basher is ridiculously OP. Team-destroying OP. It sounds fun when you're the only scout using it to bully other scout pairs but imagine when everyone runs it because its too good to pass up... Been there, done that. Please don't give people another gimmicky I-WIN button. BATMAN OUT
