AsiaFortress Cup 14: Ruleset Changes (The banner says 13) Greetings, gamers! The official announcement of the next AsiaFortress season is yet to come as we still have some details to work out, but there are some changes that we've made to the rules in hopes of improving player experience, and we'll be sharing these changes with you so that we can get your feedback. First of all, we understand that one of the main complaints that has been arising for the past few seasons has been about the seeding of teams, such as the placing of Ayam Penyet into AFC13 Division 3 (lost their first match of the season) and allowing certain players into Excitement Beneficiaries (did not finish first place). As such, we've decided to implement a more objective measurement of skill into our league. Teams will no longer need to specify their preferred division on registration, and instead they will be sorted into divisions based on the average MGE Elo of their best 5 MGE players. Hopefully, as an unbiased, objective, mathematical measure of skill, this will allow for the best possible balance between divisions. Next, we've also noticed a sharp rise in teams using Discord over Mumble for voice communication. While we understand that Discord provides many attractive features such as the ability for weebs to endlessly post images of their waifu in every channel and the ability to add seventeen variations of the  emoji to your server, we'd like people to note that it brings with it many disadvantages as well, such as the reliance on Discord's servers being up, the relatively high CPU usage, and most importantly, Head Administrator fwishy is slightly lower in volume on Discord. As such, we've decided to implement a new rule for the upcoming AsiaFortress Cup — all teams must have a dedicated Mumble channel or personal server which must be used for all official AsiaFortress matches. As proof, teams are to use the Record feature in Mumble and must submit logs when asked. Failure to comply by this rule will result in matches being overturned. We'd love to hear your opinions on our new changes, and look forward to seeing you next season! EDIT: jk lamo

Have you ever felt a sense of impending doom when waking up in the morning? The feeling of waking up in the morning to realise that you haven’t woken up from a nightmare, instead finding yourself waking up to a nightmare? Sort of like waking up in the morning to realise that the millions of dollars you inexplicably won in the lottery despite not buying a ticket was in fact just a part of a cruel, sweet dream? Well that was the way i had felt when i woke up this morning, for it was the morning that i would finally try and confess my feelings to my childhood friend. It’s been 8 years since i met her, and 3 years since i’ve realised that i fell for her. Those 3 years i’ve always searched for an opportunity, anything i could do to finally tell her how i felt, yet nothing has come from it since i was such a coward. I’m more or less a natural born coward, a person who always shied away from any challenges or any threats, and did nothing that had so much as a slight chance of a risk. There were so many times and chances given to me to tell her how i felt, or a hint of some kind, like last Thursday in the cinema, or during lunch break when we were left alone by our classmates on Tuesday, or even when we were walking home together yesterday, i’ve been given far too many chances that i’ve never took advantage of. It’s not like i was good at hiding my feelings either; If i was then maybe everyone in class wouldn’t already know about how i felt, at this point i’m sure that the only person that’s blissfully unaware of my love is Vonix herself. She was always laughing at my silly antics, my clumsy nature when i stumble over nothing while carrying my tray from the cafeteria, my forgetfulness in bringing my lunch in the first place, even during my embarrassed stuttering when talking to her at times even after 8 years. In fact, i can’t think of many moments where i’ve seen her not smiling, maybe except that one time of course. When we were 14, which was about 4 years ago, i was always getting bullied in class for my short stature, as everyone around me towered high above, sometimes even 30 centimetres or so. Everyone loved to make fun of me because they knew i couldn’t fight back, and i didn’t put up a fight. This went on throughout the school year, until it got out of hand one day when the notorious class bully tried to hit me for accidentally knocking into him while i was dashing for the toilet. “Have you no eyes? Could you not see me here, or are your eyes just as small as you are?” I didn’t have time to argue with him as i really needed the toilet, so i gave him a half hearted apology and tried again for the door, but he didn’t let me pass. As he raised his fist in a fit of anger, i braced myself for the impact that would probably have landed me in the hospital should it connected. As i stood waiting for the imminent right swing, i heard someone rushing to my defence. “He’s already apologised, it’s not like he did it intentionally either, so just let him go already!” It was Vonix, as she placed herself between me and the bully. There was a different air to her this time, not the usual calm and playful aura i was used to. I couldn’t put my finger on the difference, until she managed to chase the bully away and turned to face me. She was not smiling. ‘Today’s the day!” Trying to psych myself up to do something, i realise that today’s the perfect time to confess my feelings to her, it was the 14th of February afterall. Motivated, i put on my shoes and stepped outside. That was when i realised, the moment the warm rays of sunlight touched my skin; What do i even get her? I’ve tried so hard to convince myself to finally muster up the courage to do something, that i forgot to plan what that something was. I strolled aimlessly along the asphalt pavement, trying to think of a suitable plan to confess. I must have passed several blocks by the time i realised where i was headed, as i was slowly but surely making my way to the shopping district. “Wow,” i wondered, “Even my legs and my subconscious mind knows more about confessing and what to do than me, maybe i should just perpetually stay in that trance…” The echoes of people trying to market their products and middle aged women trying equally as hard to bargain with them filled my ears as i entered the district. There were many items on sale, ranging from an assortment of coloured towels and pretty keychains. There was everything in here, from people selling cotton candy and popcorn to stores selling wooden furniture. There were also many stores selling Valentine’s day themed items, such as boxes of pretty chocolate and pendants that you could engrave your significant other’s name on. I was jolted out of my daydream, as i realised that i was just staring at the plethora of items on sale, and that i had long forgotten my purpose, getting a gift for Vonix. It was hard to think with all the noise, but i had to come up with something, anything that i could give so that it’ll be easier for me to confess. As i reached out for the box of chocolates that was on Valentine’s sale, i was pushed along by the sea of people. “Hey!” i tried to squeak, but it was no use, i was too far away from the shore. Further and further i drifted away from the pretty pink shop that sold Valentine’s day items, and i stopped struggling to fight the current as i decided to let the massive crowd of last minute shoppers take me wherever they wished. As i found myself washed up on a quiet deserted island where nobody inhibited, i stumbled upon a lonely floral shop. This is the one. A wave of cowardice hit me again, as i found myself nervous to enter the store. Pacing back and forth, worrying thoughts filled my mind. ‘What if she doesn’t like it, what if she has a flower allergy… what if…” I was all too confused with what to do as a fresh wave of anxiety hit me. The sun was already high up in the air, and i hadn’t a moment to waste if i wanted to confess to her by today. With new-found conviction, i entered the beautifully decorated store. Flowers were everywhere, gorgeously arranged and placed neatly in clear glass vases. The entire rainbow was represented in the store, and the bewitching scent of flora pleasantly wafted into my nostrils. It was then that i realised; What flowers do i even purchase? I haven’t an inkling of knowledge regarding flowers, as well as what Vonix might even like when it came to them. That was when i heard the voice of a woman in her twenties call out to me. “Hello, how may i help you?” As i turned to face the woman, i realised that it must be the florist that owned the store. The florist smiled warmly at me, as she picked up a rose from one of the vases around. “Sorry for standing around without saying anything, i was just dumbfounded by your selection of flowers here...” I found myself muttering, as i hung my head in guilt. How long have i been standing there without saying anything? She approached me with the rose still in her hand, probably assuming that i was trying to buy a rose for my beloved. ‘If you’re looking for flowers for your Valentine, i have a wide array of them, however i do think this rose would probably be the most foolproof item you could get.” I shook my head in disagreement, as i stared at the variety of flowers behind her. I was spoilt for choices as there were as many flowers in this tiny store as the stars in the night sky, but i knew that the rose would be the wrong choice. “I’m looking for a flower, but i’m afraid the rose may not be the one. I’m afraid the thorns might cut her so i’d prefer something else…” This came out no more than a mumble, as i was afraid she might try to educate me on why the rose was the best choice for this special day, and i haven’t the time to discuss it with her. She tensed up, almost dropping the rose, as if i had said something horrible. Gesturing me to follow her, she paced away from me until she was standing in front of the back door of the store. “In the many years i’ve worked here, that’s the first time i’ve heard that. Come here, i’ll show you a secret!” What awaited me was a well kept garden, possibly filled with an even larger variety of flowers than the shop. As i was careful not to trample on any of the pretty things, she sat down beneath a small tree, as if she’s done so many times before. “Well, of course the garden isn’t a secret, everyone around here knows i’ve got one here. The secret i was talking about is this flower right here, the Salvia.” It was an azure blue flower, as big as her palm. The flower stood out amongst the rest, as if the garden was constructed to compliment the sole cluster of Salvia flowers. “The Salvia symbolises modesty, sensuality, and most importantly, love. It was a gift from my boyfriend, whom is now overseas, working hard to master his passion.” Those words seemed distant, as if she was longing for his return. She was careful not to look at me while uttering them either, as she looked to the sky, as if searching for him, somewhere. “He wanted to pursue his career in medicine, and decided that the best way was to further his education somewhere far, so he went to Germany. He gave me those flowers as a parting gift, saying he would return eventually. There is also a phrase that’s linked to the Salvia, being the phrase “I’m thinking of you”.” While she kept up her smile, it was clear that she was heartbroken. She clutched her flower tightly to her chest, now staring right at me, her clear hazel eyes shining with resolve. “When i heard what you told me earlier, i saw the determination and love you had. Even though you were unsure about yourself, you knew not to harm the one closest to you. With this flower, i want you to cherish her, as i’m sure she’s important and very dear to you.” She stood up, handing me a pink and white flower from beneath her apron. On the plastic wrapper that bunched up the enchanting stalks of Marjoram’s, there was a label that read, “Joy and happiness”. It was clear what i had to do then. I paid for the flowers, and left hastily for her house. There was a sense of lingering loneliness that i felt from the florist, and i was determined to help her out when i was able to, but i didn’t want to lose the determination and the guiding light i had received from the florist. Why had i been so convoluted with thought before? The answer i needed was never in the gift, the answer was what i was able to give. I will make her happy, i will be the reason she smiles in the morning. The present wasn’t important, it was what i gave to her afterwards that mattered. I ran, as fast as my legs could possibly take me, towards her house. It was a long distance from the shop, but that didn’t matter to me as the adrenaline in my body spurred me forward. She’s always been there for me, always smiling and helping me out whenever she can, never with a complaint. This time, i want to be the one to be there for her, always supporting her, always caring for her, always loving for her. I will provide her with the present, but i will also be there for her in the future. “Is Vonix here?” As she opened the door, i was speechless again. Her long jet black hair cascaded behind her back, with her dark eyes widening at the state i was in. Perspiration dripped from my brow, and my shirt was soaked through. There was a sudden ache from my legs, but at least the flowers were safe. “Are you okay? Have you always went for an evening jog? No fair, you should invite me along next time!” She teased as she gestured for me to enter her home to rest. Evening jog? I was sure the sun was still up a moment ago, just how long have i ran for? Looking at her concerned face as i didn’t react to her kindness, i realised i had so much to say, so much i needed her to know. Unable to bear the weight of my own crushing heart, i blurted out my feelings in their entirety. “I’m so sorry for always causing trouble for you, Vonix! All those times i’ve made you worry, all those times i’ve made you sad, all the times you’ve had to help me out, like that time with the bully… I don’t know what i’d do without you, Vonix, i just want you to stay by my side… “ With all the remaining courage i could conjure, i found myself raising my voice as i told her the final piece of the puzzle still left empty; “I love you, Vonix!” There wasn’t even a seconds delay. She embraced me, taking the Marjoram’s from my hand and giving me something i had not expected in the slightest; A kiss. “AiShou, I love you too…”

Hey all, before the season starts I'd like to ask you guys to submit any amazing frags/killstreaks/airshots/headshots that you acquire over the course of AFC13 to me! Yes, there might be a frag video if there are enough submissions. I can't make it if there are no submissions. But do take note: Only official frags in matches are counted. Scrims do not count. Division does not matter. If you have a airshot on me, I'd definitely put it in the video. Name your files as: Tick-Name-DescriptionOfKills.dem (e.g. 1337-joe-5k.dem) You can upload them to WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Mega. If you have the STVs, even better, but not required. Have a great season fragging, everyone!

This was my first season in AFC, but it was enough for me to realize how much of a bad state the community was in. Most of the paragraphs are going to be a rant based on my experience playing in division 3 this season, followed by other stuff that need fixing which can be explained in bullet point, and ending with my personal requests. RULES - what are they and what are they for? The rules for asiafortress cup 12 obviously had some parts missing from them, but the biggest problem wasn’t even about the details. As humans living under a massive set of rules, we are raised to follow these rules from birth and get punished severely for every rule that is broken. As soon as I joined this season, I read through the rules many times and memorized them as a team captain. I followed the rules throughout the entire season, but by the time the season ended I realized that the community wasn't really following the rules at all. What even surprised me more, was that the administrators didn't want me to follow some of the rules. The best example here would be regarding forfeit wins. Being an extremely punctual person, I expected everyone to be on time. If the enemy the team wasn't on time, I could simply get a forfeit win and get ready for the next match. It was supposed to be simple as that. However, every time I would ask a question regarding forfeits, the first thing an admin would say is that 'we try to avoid forfeits'. Despite the rules clearly stating situations that give forfeit wins, the admins just turn it down. It should not even be up to an admin if a team gets a forfeit win or not. A team doesn't come to the match at the scheduled time, so they lose. A forfeit win is supposed to be a consequence, not a decision. The constant looming threat of a forfeit win forces every team to be on time, making the entire season flow neatly from start to end. However, since the forfeit win system is thrown out of the window, there is no rule (haHAA) or order to match punctuality, and the tournament itself. One time I brought up the possibility for a forfeit win as a warning against the enemy team, they just laughed it off and the match ended up being 50 minutes late by the time everyone from the enemy team arrived. The Asiafortress community is still filled with immature humans that need to be forced to be on time, and the rule of a forfeit win is supposed to be that force. The motto for this particular season seemed to be “case-by-case”, where every single match was an exception from being punished for not following the rules. Whenever a player didn’t follow the rules, they were allowed to not follow the rules. By the time the season ended, there was no merit or reason to follow the rules since nobody got punished. The concept of “case-by-case” should be completely removed from the community because there simply aren’t enough admins to actually follow every single ‘case’ properly. This is why rules exist in this world in the first place; it’s supposed to be a guideline that every human in that community follows because the court (admin) doesn’t have the time to deal with every single ‘case’ in the world. The easiest way to fix the current state of sluggishness and chaos of this community would be to enforce rules, removing space for exceptions as much as possible. As some admins have told me before, if the rules were never made to be enforced, then it’s time we changed that. The rules itself don’t need to be that strict, it just needs to be executed strictly. This will tighten up the community from all sides, and should make every tournament in the future look much more ‘professional’. DIVISIONS This season had a walloping 24 teams registering in division 3! That’s amazing! Oh wait, there were only 5 teams in division 1 and 10 teams in division 2. The distribution of teams among each division could have definitely been done better, to say the least. 2 or more of the teams from division 3 would’ve probably been able to play in a higher division, and the exact same thing could be said for division 2 as well. There isn’t much that the administrators can actually do to distribute players fairly because they don't know the skill level of every single player. The only way every player can be distributed to a fair division is to have them team up with players at the same skill level as each other. It is always disappointing to see playoff matches ending with 5-0 5-0, hopefully next season it will work out better. PLAYOFFS MAP SELECTION Basically, the map pool for this season's playoffs was rigged. Despite having 7 maps used in the regular season, teams only had 5 maps to choose from in every BO3, and it went like this: UBSF - Badlands Process Gullywash Snakewater Granary LBSF/UBF- Process Snakewater Granary Reckoner Product LBF - Badlands Process Gullywash Snakewater Product We can see that Process and Gullywash were the only 2 maps in all 3 map pools of playoffs. This means that statistically, the team that was the strongest in Process and Gullywash had the highest chance of winning these 3 playoff matches, not to mention that Reckoner only had a chance of being played once. To prevent the playoffs from being unfair by default, we could simply implement the pick/ban style using in i61. The team with the higher status (the home team) will be able to ban 3 maps, giving every match a chance to at least choose from all maps. Summary : Enforce rules, change the rules so they can be enforced throughout the season. Recommend and support players to create teams with other players that are around the same skill level as them. This will make it easier for admins to determine what division to put the teams in. Have every single map in the playoffs map pool for a fair map selection. Other stuff that require fixing Despite the match thread recommending us to upload our demos to the demo uploads page, it doesn't exist anymore after the website migration. Please create another demo uploads page. The current class limit is supposed to have 1 pyro and 2 spies, but somehow in some servers the AFL config allows 2 pyros and 1 spy instead. This needs to be fixed since every mach could be overturned with the usage of incorrect class limits. The rules state that we use the latest global whitelist, but the link was broken and it was unclear if the jarate and vaccinator was allowed or not, creating problems. This also needs to be fixed to prevent further conflicts from happening. Personal Requests Casters should also get permission from both teams if they want to cast from spectators. However it is still recommended to cast from STV which is done in ESEA and ETF2L. Consider doing captain bans upon request, if multiple team captains complain about a certain team captain it would be better to utilize bans rather than letting the community get intoxicated. The community needs better administrators that actually have the ability and the commitment to administrate. me Consider straight up adding maps such as cp_sunshine and cp_metalworks and maybe add a week to the regular season, it won't be much of a change as long as they are executed in an orderly fashion. In fact, it'll still be shorter than this season which was actually 13 weeks long because of all the postponements. Thanks for reading through.

Ok finally this thread came up I think there are so many changes/implementations that could be made with regards to the actual AFC tournament and also Asiafortress as a whole in terms of resources/outreach to get more people involved. I'll be drawing comparisons to how Ozfortress is run simply because structurally it's the most similar to ours compared to ESEA/ETF2L/Zimbabwe TF2 Community, and also because I think we're more acquainted with them which makes it easier to understand my points ANY EXAMPLES THAT I USE IN THIS POST ARE DEFINITELY NOT PERSONAL ATTACKS, BUT MERELY BROUGHT UP FOR THE SAKE OF ILLUSTRATING HOW THE FLAWS IN THE RULESET HAVE BEEN EXPLOITED WHICH RESULTED IN UNFAVOURABLE OUTCOMES THAT WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN AVOIDED AFC MERC RULES (Regular Season) This is actually a pretty dumb rule. 6 mercs allowed during regular season with 7 gameweeks. MERCS FROM THE SAME DIVISION CANNOT BE REJECTED. This is a huge ass problem because of the huge skill gap between the top-tier and lower-tier teams in the same divison (for example div 2, who has s11 div 1 champ floaty playing against players who JUST GOT OUT OF DIV 3) case in point: http://logs.tf/1798521 (guess who's the merc for red guys xD oh but he's same division so he can't get rejected and can carry!) im not having a go at my aussie friends, the rules were there and they followed it (since you can't deny mercs from same division) He also did this with 360 ping because he was apparently too lazy to turn on his VPN. This really shouldnt be allowed and there's apparently also no restriction on how many times you can use 1 guy as merc in a whole season. This basically means that if I'm in low div 2, I can get the best player in div 2 to carry me for 6/7 games and give me a really good chance at getting into playoffs. Proposed changes: Lower the number of allowed merc usage, and make it so that ALL MERCS HAVE TO BE APPROVED by the other team so we avoid having players carry teams from the lower tier of the same division SIX GODDAMN TIMES with the other teams being unable to do anything about it AFC PLAYOFF RULES POSTPONING JESUS CHRIST. When teams give reasons like 'oh we have exams' or 'oh we unavailable on that day going on holiday lol' when the entire schedule of the season is already posted before the season even starts. Literally all the dates are posted up to grand finals. for sapnu puas, corto has exams, but we made sure he could commit all the way to grand finals (even though we didnt reach that far LUL) just in case so we don't run into scheduling issues. The onus is on the teams and players to make sure they can commit to the whole season (schedule wise). If you can't make it for grand finals THEN HOW ABOUT DONT COMMIT TO SEASON OR JUST BE A SUB? The schedule has already been posted, why should the opposing team (and also the whole league) have to wait for you to finish your goddamn shit IRL before proceeding with the match 3/4 weeks after the scheduled time? A team that I scheduled a match with wanted to postpone our match. Their reasoning for not using subs? "Who uses subs in playoffs man. Subs are only for emergency internet issues" which is honestly a pretty dumb justification. This is a huge reason why ozfortress is in season 20 + summer cup + ultiduo + other stuff while we're still stuck at season 12 (which officially concluded yesterday CONGRATS 2F). It's not even an issue about the post-season being too long, but the postpones are just delaying EVERYTHING when the extra time could be used for doing something else (post season surveys/feedback threads like this one, revising the map pool because reckoner is a piece of shit map, other icebreaker things like scrambles/asiafortress academy) Mercs also should not be allowed in playoffs (my team is guilty of this lol sorry) because of how high the stakes are. tbh against ERA in div 2 lower bracket finals (the one with 3 golden caps) we didn't really care that they got a div 1 med merc because we just wanna play some TF2, but what's the point of slogging through the whole season just to use a merc to help you win the playoff matchup? Also, you have 4 other goddamn subs USE YOUR SUBS FFS) Proposed changes: DON'T ALLOW ANY POSTPONING OF PLAYOFFS. If you wanna postpone regular season matches fine, that just means your team has to play 2 matches in 1 week, but PLAYOFFS SHOULD ALWAYS GO ACCORDING TO SCHEDULE. (shoutout to aqua) CLASS RESTRICTIONS FOR DIVISIONS This is a thing which definitely should be implemented. There's no reason to let former div 1/2 players (who have actually placed pretty well in past seasons) play their main class in lower divs, which ruins the competitiveness of the division because it just becomes a game of 'let that player try to make plays during stalemates' and conversely 'shut down that specific player' instead of actually watching 6v6 TF2 take place. Not to mention just the idea of letting superior players play against other people of significantly lower skill level should not be a thing. Proposed changes: CLASS RESTRICT PEOPLE PLAYING IN DIVISIONS BELOW THEIR SKILL LEVEL TRANSPARENCY BETWEEN ADMINS AND PLAYERS This isn't the biggest priority on the list of things to fix, but I think it could've been improved. I honestly only have one example for this. Historically for AFC, the way the map pool works is like this Week 1 : Map A,B - Week 2: Map B,C - Week 3: Map C,D ....... Week 7 Map F,A (Let's call this Map Rotation 1) Unfortunately for AFC 12, due to Div 1 having only 5 teams, the map pool was changed to this Week 1: Map A,B - Week 2: Map C,D - Week 3: Map E,F Week 4: Map G,H (Let's call this Map Rotation 2) This was completely unnecessary for div 2/3 teams which use a Swiss-system because it doesn't use a round robin like div 1. The map rotation couldve been changed for just div 1, with divs 2 and 3 using the old system. What the real problem was that when the entire league changed to Map Rotation 2 all of a sudden, there was no official announcement that Map Rotation 1 was not being used any more. Teams which actually scrimmed pre season focusing on Map Rotation 1 were fucked because of the abrupt change to Map Rotation 2 without being given any prior warning. It's not the hugest of deals because it only affected preparations for week 1 and 2, but the real issue I'm trying to highlight is that this could have been easily avoided without making things more complicated. Proposed changes: Pretty much what i just said lol LASTLY, THE DIVIDE BETWEEN LOWER AND HIGHER TIER PLAYERS It's actually worrying that there's such a huge number of players in div 3, who have been playing in div 3 for multiple seasons. Also, there also have been a large influx of players in lower tier pugs given the prominence of more pug servers (Chilly, Pure, Govt). This opportunity should definitely not be wasted given how noncompetitive div 1 is right now compared to past seasons. Of course, you have a few 'gems' like lerl, k1lled, itachi who have worked their way up the ranks really quickly, but for every lerl you get like 20 other people who are constantly stuck in the same skill level. When I first started 6s in late 2011, there were stuff like Sandvich pugs (which had veterans volunteering to captain 5 newbies and teaching them about the game in mumble) and Asiafortress academy (which hasn't been around in a while, but then there was AFmash or Scramble or whatever it's called). This problem is not as prominent in Ozfortress due to 2 reasons 1) Friendlier community as a whole in terms of providing resources/feedback to newbies in pugs/scrims 2) Higher skill level players actually hanging out with players of lower skill and inviting them to their inhouse pugs, which is a way more conducive environment to play TF2 compared to pugs in Asia. I can't see a change in mindset happening for Asiafortress and asian pugs (where people permasnipe or direct hit/battalion's backup) so I think it's unfeasible to simply say oh just be less cancer to newbies xD (though it's a good start tbh try to be more patient and understanding) Asiafortress has a really long post-season compared to other regions, and honestly nothing happens outside of pugs and mixes/scrims. Proposed changes: Use the off-season time period to organize an initiative to help newbies acclimate to 6s TF2, and offer proper platforms for them to get better at the game. This helps in increasing the competitiveness of the league, attracting people to play 6s, and make the divisions more balanced instead of having 100 teams in div 3 Almost there guys. QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES These aren't really related to Asiafortress and League Rules as a whole, but would be personally considered as 'icing on the cake' type of changes, such as: End of season awards (Best scout, best pocket, best whatever. refer to ozfortress) Post a DRAFT OF THE AFC RULESET on forums and give like a week for COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. Make changes to the rules based on community response/further deliberation before finalizing it. More casting hubs other than Rednaxelawee (Not a huge problem as of right now since we have tflive and cappingtv guided by our lord and saviour mitchcliff1234567890) Pre-season article columns http://ozfortress.com/showthread.php?t=63149 Playoff article columns https://asiafortress.com/index.php?/blogs/entry/35-afc-12-div-2-playoffs-preview/ (gj justin and ev it was a solid writeup except tharnos was playing pocket so you baited my team) We did it.

An Idiot's Guide to Main calling The Introduction Welcome onlookers and Jake Paulers to my guide to main calling. Firstly, let's defined what main calling is... Main calling a person in authority, especially over a body of troops or a military operation. the elected head of a republican state. (or in this case, a competitive 6's team.) The main caller is the brain of the team. He/she is the one that is responsible to the strategy or decisions that the team will eventually be forced to face as the situation arises. Main callers can severely be different from each other and even varying in number. Teams usually differ in selecting the main caller as members are reluctant to take such a commanding role, but I assure you, being a main caller is not as what you purport it to be. The main caller position can be both complex and simple depending on how your team dynamic is structured. Main callers are not also limited to the leaders of the team, main callers can be the most invisible person when it comes to scheduling or even any of your players. Let us assess first the types of main caller/s that a team may possess. The Types of Main Calling Dictator/Overlord A dictator/overlord kind of ruler is what'd you expect. The team delegates the leadership role to the main caller and only to the main caller. He is the one that calls the strategies and offensive maneuverability of the team, but that is what this type of main calling's achilles heel: the main caller. The team's strategy and capability can only revolve around the leader and with this, tactical miscalculations that could've been easily prevented by a counter call by another teammate would have never happened. Of course it is easy to say that a member of the team would simply call off the entire push but how would that affect the team? The team would simply be in tatters trying to provide support to both callers: the main caller who proposes a disastrous offensive and the member who would like to retreat. Either way, the team would be separated in actions and would leave the team outnumbered and divided. In competitive 6's, you have only have 5 units to control. Losing 2 units in TF2 (explanation: In theory, a 4v6 would always end badly for the outnumbered team) would only cripple your team and it takes a simple opposing call from another player to weaken your force. The only way you can circumvent this is to agree beforehand that you are the one that they will only follow. Monarchical/Kingship/Queenship It is similar to the dictator/overlord type but it differs in how it treats its members. The members in a monarchical command can offer strategy/ideas and pushes, if and only if, the main caller approves of it. The main caller has the same power of the dictator/overlord but recognizes the intelligence of his/her team and trusts their judgement to a certain degree. This is the type of main calling that I'd like to call suggestive main calling. It is a style of leadership where the upper echelons gather information from the bottom and assess its viability. As such, this is the job of monarchical main callers. They are the end all be all of the team and no suggestion would come to fruition of the main caller would not allow it. It definitely improves upon the dictator/overlord theory on how the strategy and the calculations would be better due to different people having varying outlooks on how to approach the situation; however, this is also one of its weakness. Due to the varying number of opinions, a passive/doubtful/indecisive leader would simply stall or take too much time calling strategies. In competitive 6's, time is of the essence and it is not as abundant as the number of arrows your medic missed while you're standing still. Aristocracy/Aristocratic You have two or three main callers, this in theory would be better in leading the team but becomes a logistical nightmare in game. In TF2, several players would act on different motivations in several different ways. Say you are 2v5'ing and you have an uber advantage against the enemy team of 30% (You basically have uber). You are alone with your pocket medic and you are a soldier. You have gunboats and a full clip of rockets. The enemy is chasing you and approaching fast, the question becomes will you go for the offensive or defensive? Some would say that they would rather fight, kill the medic and retreat; but others would not stop there, they would still attack the other 4 in hopes of equalizing the number disadvantage as they are scattered across the bomb avoiding the invulnerable combo. This is the main problem, the variety in solving TF2 is numerous and in these happen in seconds. Having multiple main callers would be detrimental to your team as they would be forced to call and options would only confuse the remaining players. They would not know who to follow like an ant who has lost its way to its colony. Motivational Who is this leader and why is he so noisy? This leader is the morale booster of the group, he does not really take a high command on strategy but rather on emotional factors. TF2 is essentially very stressful and demotivating if losing. Some would say that this leader is essentially useless but I'd digress. This main caller simply is unfazed by all of his surroundings and is the most calm/consistent player of the group. This leader is the guy that rises the morale of the team for you guys to fight longer. In war, it is common to see routings (disorganized retreat) made by armies disheartened/demotivated to fight. This is why the motivational main caller is such an important type of main calling. Republic I mean, coming from its name, its members have a say in matters but have different abilities. In theory, this type is where it follows three branches of its main calling. You can diversify and create more branches but that is up to you. It is the offensive, defensive and judicial branch. As a general rule, it should only be delegated to three people. The offensive branch would take the most active role as they would call the strategies for attack and where the attack will originate from. The defensive branch is in charge of escape/retreat. The judicial branch exists only to tell the final call, if and only if, both branches oppose each other; otherwise, they would not act. This is definitely a more structured approach since once the offensive has been called, retreat cannot be called by the front lines. The main caller included in the defensive branch would simply wait for the opportunity to speak if the battle has gone out for too long and it is not going to their favour. On the chance that both would call for attack and retreat at the same time, the judicial branch would merely scream, "MARCH YOU FUCKING LOSERS" or "WHAT THE FUCK, ARE YOU RETARDED? GET OUT" Mobocracy All 6 of you are the main callers, you care fuck all of the strategies and would like to destroy your team cohesion in an instant. If you would like your team to die, this is the route to choose. This is the best type of main calling that literally involves all six of you screaming at each other trying to project your ideas. If you pick this, I sincerely wish your team to die. Main calling is complex subject to touch on because all teams have players that others do not. They all have this certain characteristic of individuality that makes each team special. In adopting these styles/types of main calling, it is advisable to not be limited by these and try to find a type that fits for your team. *continuation coming up because im bored*
