[align=justify]Introduction:

PUGs or Pick-Up-Games are a form of games in the competitive Team Fortress 2 scenes aside from scrims. Like most other matches, normal pickup games consist of 6 players on each teams and normally consist of one medic, one demoman, two soldiers, two scouts or utillities. PUGs are not like scrims because the teams are fixed, rather they are selected at random via a Captain or scramble.

PS: Be polite and ask whether it's a scrim or PUG. Small things like this do increase your reputation with the community when your new.

Server Rules:

In most Asian servers the common rule is that once 6 players are on each team the last two to spectate will become the medic captain. The medic captain is going to each choose 5 other members from the 'list' which are the list of players which did not play before. Once the list is done or there is no list it is free pick for the rest of the players at hand. IF YOU WERE CHOSEN AS MEDIC AND YOU LEAVE THE GAME YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE SERVERS PERMANENTLY. ALL THE PLAYERS SHOULD APPEAL FOR A BAN LET THEM BE SET AS EXAMPLES.

added by hcaz:

additional rules for the pug/match servers.

players don't have to med if he was last to spec twice in a row(not on separate occasions).

obstructing the game like running a full time pyro' date=' spy, sniper, engineer is a bannable offence. not limited to but running non standard classes during a rollout is also a bannable offence.

the skill level in the asian scene is bad enough, let's try not to make it worse by being retarded. there are pub servers for that.

last but not least, racism, excessive trolling, mm1 abuse, personal flaming are all bannable offence.

UPDATE: ALL THE NEW MANN ECONOMICS UPDATE ITEMS IS BANNED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

UPDATE: All polycount items are banned except for the hats and the Holy Mackerel. Make sure you know what items are banned in the server your about to go to before you start pugging.

UPDATE: Refer to here for a more complete list.

A good server admin will always warn you when you are using banned items. However that is not the case as there are some admins who will just straight away ban you. So the lesson is, DON'T USE THE BANNED ITEMS. Simple

Now that is more than 6 players. But remember scouts will often change to these other classes (called "utilities") in some occasions. But always remember to ask your team first before changing classes (or at least inform them). Players playing demoman or medic should never change their class! They are essential in a scrim/pug and without them your team would have a distinct disadvantage. Always ask another player in your team whether they would like to be playing your class before switching with them.

Added by Madman:

It is absolutely unacceptable to ninja the original scout slot. Going utillity is NOT an open invitation to swap classes.

Etiquette in a PUG:

Your attitude in PUGs might affect what people think about you' date=' so always try and have a smile on your face, like Wish.

Admins hate to kick people out of servers for absolutely no good reason, please cooperate with admin in charge of that PUG. Sometimes I see people join in when in mid-game and just enter a team which disturbs the flow of the game. Always remember to spectate first to see if a PUG or scrim is already going before you enter a team. That just ticks me off when someone does that.

Remember if the players start voting for maps, scramble etc. that you should start voting for maps also. It's kinda annoying where you guys are trying to start a pug and you need one or two more votes to change map, turn tourney on etc.

People make a big fuss about who's playing what class and whats-not that they don't enjoy the fun. There are no points in a PUG, but do try your best. PUGs make a great learning experience and you can train your individual skills by playing them.

Don't be a troll and just do random things in a PUG because some people might take offense to it.

- Have a friendly attitude

- Don't ready up your team until your team is fully ready

- Don't make a fuss of who's playing what class and what-so

- Follow your captains

- Respect the server admin and his decisions

- Always try your best

- Don't troll

If you lose in a PUG don't rage and complain about this or that and start spamming vulgarities in global chat. You lost because your team didn't work together as well. PUGs are a generally mixture of people from different cultures such as India, Singapore, Taiwan, etc. Always respect each different nationalities and don't start harrassing them just cause they're this or they're that.

Communication:[/b]

Playing TF2 definitely requires a mic and without it you will not be able to inform your teammates when you're dead or when an enemy scout leak or when they pop their ubercharge. Things are so fast paced you can't just sit and type the letters out, because if you do then you're dead. Whether your in Mumble or using in-game voice chat (which is horrible tbh) you should always call out to your teammates whether you need assistance or something or someone leak behind.

mumble.png

Here is a small guide to setting up Mumble:

1. Download Mumble

2. Click on the executable and install Mumble

3. Create a username

4. Input the IP: [to be updated]

Now you should have Mumble running. Even though you don't have a mic you could always listen to your teammates talking, so it's a good thing to be on mumble.

Starting a PUG:

You require:

- 12 people who can play the entire PUG (I hate it when people leave mid game)

- A server (with server admin preferably)

- Two captains

- Mic

- Some brains

Whenever there is two captains you should stay in spectator and wait for the captain to pick you. People who didn't play the previous pugs will get their names listed so they will choose first. If you are a captain, pick the people from these list first.

If a scramble is occurring, make sure there are six people in each team before you scramble, because it will mess up the scrambling.

It is the captains responsibility to make sure his teams are organized and playing the correct classes. Again, don't complain to the captain if you suck at a certain class, just go with the flow and the rest don't start complaining that this person sucks etc. Learning gotta start from somewhere.

Normally there will be less than 12 people that usually get the pugs going. Some PUGs will be announced via Steam group announcement so join these groups so you can see if a PUG is being announced:

[More to be added]

If you want to get a PUG to run more quickly, then get an admin. You can contact me, or the other server admins to get a PUG going, but sometimes they just aren't free, so don't bug them if they can't come. Remember real life responsibilities > in-game responsibilities. So do your homework first, have fun later. Remember we don't want to hear your mom screaming at you in the mic (don't we bigfoot).

Maps:

The most played maps are cp_badlands and cp_granary (also known as "granlands"). I find it sick that most people ONLY play this map and ONLY want to play this map. I always make it a point by not including these two maps after they have been played because its so annoying to see badlands, granary, badlands, granary, badlands and granary being played all the time. It's good if it's played occasionally, but it is being played for almost every pug/scrim/etc. It doesn't give other maps a fighting chance.

This is a list of maps that are being played for any 2011 Asiafortress League events and in PUGs and scrims.

Once you have mastered the art of pugging, join a team and start scrimming, but do note that scrimming and pugging are two different things.

Here are some of the rules for the Asiafortress League:

General Rules

Class and Unlocks Rules

League Rules

Conclusion:

Always remember that the objective of a PUG is to have fun and enjoy the game and pass time. Don't make it not enjoyable by making other people miserable. If you want to be miserable then go cry in a corner and suck some d***. Don't start trolling in the game and drop uber just because your picked as medic. Have fun and play hard.

nice, I would like to add that if a scout or sol goes util for a moment, IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE TO NINJA THE ORIGINAL SCOUT SLOT. Going util is NOT AN OPEN INVITATION TO SWAP CLASS.

SERIOUSLY.

Someone should translate that e-club pug rule into Chinese. Many China guys who come to e-club can't understand it and are forced to play medic because of that.
