Skill Level of Local Players + Some Sharing

Owen i give u a clear cut example.

You : Go work somewhere when you don't even know THE BASIC.

You : After SO MANY times telling you where you make your mistakes you still make it.

You : Showing attitude in work when people are trying to correct you.

Getting banned not agreeing with the admins? Be specific. The admins can be wrong at times. Case by case basis.

you forget this is basically a dictatorship anyways. You're going to try reason with the co-creator of AF because you think how he wants to run his own community is wrong? What's the worst that's going to happen after you run off crying to mokee's?

I'm not claiming anything is right or wrong here, but you should remember that the admins are kind enough to put in hard work to provide you with all these servers, round up all these volunteers to bring you an amazing TF2 comp experience and you still have something to bitch about. If you look at this from an admin's perspective you are pretty unappreciative. It's like if you start bitching at your parents when they don't buy you new iPhone 5S. They fucking made you, maybe show some respect?

The side most of the people are taking here is that the least you can do is to read some guides. That's the biggest problem they have. You are providing easy access to all of these information sources, yet you don't look at them..... How do you think it makes them feel?

And you missed bio's point quite dramatically imo. He's not saying that just because "oh my parents beat me so lol, gotta beat my kids", okay? He's saying that, "since other people + me can accept some criticism and some justified(? highly subjective) rage, shouldn't you be able to too?" Do you understand that? He's comparing your EQ to that of others. You can think of this as an entry test. If you can't handle some rage how will you manage your team leader raging at you? (he shouldn't but you get the point). It's like you think you're some king we must cater to.

First things first.

Parents will scold their children with their goodwill at heart, players from afl insult newbies because they get beat up at school too much.

And no admins do not give out warnings normally, e.g. my case and potato balls case.

If the ''creators'' of AFL do not show respect how do you expect us to show respect? 1 way relationship? no, respect goes both ways, what is this, north korea?

And no, Cuteboys' and shounics examples aren't 100% correct. The people here are not trying to correct others, they are just like players in a pub calling f2ps noob. No goodwill at heart, just mean intentions.

Shounic coming from you that is extremely sarcastic and hypocritical, considering how much you flame and insult your teammates. You are the one who thinks you are a king, and that you can insult others just because you are of higher skill. The only time i have actually seen you humbled was when destiny was flaming you for being bad in his eyes. The only time. The rest were when people made mistakes and you scolded them for it, not with any good intentions at heart. If people truly liked respected you, why would they actually make all these binds to mock you, huh? You are the deaf king, who can't hear what others are trying to say to you. The problem is actually yourself, not others.

As for Cuteboys' example, newbies usually only give ''attitude'' when the players in the server try to votekick or voteban them. Usually the players do not give examples and areas where the newbies can improve on, and just auto votekick or voteban them, both of you are speaking of this in a way like AFL is truly a charitable organization with the intent of helping people improve. As a matter of fact, AFL is scorned and mocked at by many people, as along with a ton of my school mates aka Bery, Mako, etc. Their reviews of AFL are that the players show double standards, kind to friends, mean to newbies. Same thing as from what i have been seeing from AFL over these few months.

And if a newbie is really bad, and the whole team is raging at him/her, do YOU ask them to read guides, or do you just do !votekick?

In whole, i do agree with Bio's point, but as for Shounic's, it was so hypocritical that it had to be addressed at.

I have tried to say this as politely as possible, if i have offended anyone i am sorry. But please realize that even though most of you are div 1 or 2 players, you aren't the best, and even if you are, there will be times that you fail, so be tolerant with everyone, raging doesn't exactly make one happy.

Cool, point taken. Lets take a look shall we?

1. Parents scold children only because of goodwill. Although I had no points about whether admins or veterans have "goodwill", I'll take it. In the first place, like I said, the guides are already here. Take it or leave it. No one is supposed to be nice to you if you don't even have the basic common sense to come here and read about pugs and etiquette in pugs.

- Then comes your point about do we actually ask them to read guides. Ok Ow3n, let me paint a nice scenario for you. Everyone is playing their pug. Starting up, this new guy screws up and does some wrong shit. Are YOU going to sacrifice THE OTHER 11 PEOPLE's TIME (including yourself) OR are you going to be nice and say "hey dude, check the guides up, lets all pause and wait for 30 mins till he gets his shit tgt". In the first place, to have someone reading guides on the spot is plain retarded, and is wasting everyone's time. Consider that. It's a pug, not a scrim nor mix.

Moving on, Admins kick others without reason usually. Hello look at your example. U base ur judgement of the admins using 1 case. Furthermore, it happens to target only that 1 admin. Your generalizing twice, assuming and blaming the mistake of that sole admin on a sole incident on the admin community. Is that right?

Next, yes you can say that respect is a "two-way" thing. But for two people to respect each other, one must give way first right? And you seriously expect the veterans to respect you without knowing who the hell you are? Come on man, maybe if the new people show some respect first, apologise for some of obvious mistakes (does not include skill related stuff), then this respect thing can go "two-way"

***I don't care about your opinion of shounic and cuteman so I'll leave it as that***

However, your point about people in AFL having double standards, not actually charitable, etc. I totally AGREE on that point. But lets be objective about this. Is the WHOLE community like that? Is it really? And can you actually say that you yourself in your life have always been unbiased and impartial. My point here is basically that you can't generalize some people's attitude and label it as the community's fault. Some people here are genuinely kind and nice and really enthusiastic to lend a helping hand. And you can't blame some for having double standards sometimes. It happens, people make mistakes (although it happens too often -.-)

So I'll leave you that to rebut argue shit about etc.

Good point though. Although if the admins behave in a certain way you can't help it but think that as role models, they will have to act up to that role and be good ones for the rest of the community. And so just because you don't know who someone is means that you shouldn't respect that person. First day of school, principal doesn't know you, sees you accidentally screw up, calls you a cunt. What is going to happen to his rep? You are thinking of the admin and a normal member on the same platform, they have the same rights, but not the same kind of thinking that they have to live up to. And say, if the admin i am talking about is one of the important ones in the community, don't you think it should be alright to generalize?

If the principal of a school molested one of his students, can you blame others for thinking bad about the school from then on? No, because he is supposed to be a role model for everyone and influence the others, not be someone whom people will despise and disrespect.

I, however do agree that a lot of people are nice. Floaty for example, a very nice guy. Not influenced by the behaviour of the AFL community, and does share some of my views on certain admins and people ( which are also commonly shared amongst most ).

So your general point, yes, i do agree. You can't judge a book by its cover, but if its cover was that of a porno, then yes, it would be fair to judge it by its cover.

You are right that everyone will undoubtedly generalize the impression of the community based on admins.

However it will be wrong for people to do so. Just like what you said about judging a book by its cover. Sadly that's what everyone does, so not much can be done about it.

I guess this has been some nice debate and opinion sharing of the community lately, insightful and helpful no doubt.

Shounic : I had tons of verbal abuse and what not too, but I've made it into a respectable position now.

If by respectable he means hated, then yes.

Post by Shounic about why being the ass he is is alright : -3 points

Post by FPS pyro stating what i just stated about not giving verbal abuse : +6 points

@Shounic, if everything you are saying has negative votes, then instead of insisting you are 100% right, why not humble yourself ?

Your opinion is so generalized. Be appreciative you joined at a time when the community is fking welcoming and there are guides and YouTube videos for you, even a pug server with special mod which took nata hours of coding.

Don't expect veterans to be nice to you if you come to our pugs and expect us to serve everything nicely to you on a silver platter and treat you like gods. I once felt like you (go search the infamous rage thread) but as time went by i realized how many people arent sincere about wanting to get better or grow the community

Besides, flaoty who you mentioned is one of the cunts who constantly goes sniper when he should be roaming and hits like 1 out of 10 shots. And he fucking dare argue with me when i told him nicely to switch? (Flaoty go back roamer please) i dk any nicer way of saying that unless i add many smiley faces but if you dont respect the opinions of veterans let alone admins and still act like a fucking boss then you deserve to be treated like shit.

Im not a harsh person in general but i feel that the kids have to grow the fuck up if not you won't have a community when the veterans finally step down

10 ez steps for a newbie:

1. Read guides

2. Read more guides

3. Read even more guides

4. Watch gameplays

5. Watch more gameplays

6. Watch even more gameplays

7. Apply what you have read in game

8. Apply what you have watched and analysed in game

9. If you still get flamed, don't be defensive and try to understand why people are saying what they are saying

10. Improve and keep improving

OKOK TIME TO STOP LURKING ;__; I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE IF YOU THINK IM TALKING OUT OF MY ASS OR WRONG THREAD OR BEING A SHIT LORD

SINCE MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE SHARING THEIR VIEWS ON THINGS I SHARE MINE ALSO OK be gentle it's my first time

freyja/mykonos/shadowplay here i do my best to add my thoughts and 2 cents on this ok cause i honestly like the community and love the game (i still get scolded quite abit but thats ok i wanna improve) so here i go:

I started TF2 when it went F2P, got invited into a pug by adel cause he is real life friend of a friend, got shit on and scolded but its ok cause I DIDNT KNOW SHIT.

So what did i do?

I fucking like watched a shitload tf2 competitive videos, sat in as many scrims as i could whenever allstars and scrts were playing.

Create a server and just jumped around maps as scout or a soldier, walked backwards in maps to attempt memorizing them etc etc scout jumps hiding spots etc etc download tr_rocketshooting play abit of mge etc etc

IM STILL SHIT, but less shit lor, cause i didnt get raged at or votekicked or hated by niggers or made a fool and laughing stock or feel depressed cause i bottom score.

Then along with famous crimson firebird (i love the dude really <333) we made a team and scrim-ed and it was fun times cause got spammah, qjyap, summer guiding us by sitting in our mumble and giving us tips and advice throughout our games.

And then, cuteman, fuzz and lonatic who sat in and played for us (ableit raging cause we were fucking horrible), constantly gave advice, steam messaged us after scrims and sometimes mumble. Fuzz even reviewed our scrims through demos which was really sweet and sexy of him.

^ tadah, thats why i appreciate and kinda homosexually love the community. These people are good people so i add them on steam so i can remember their penises.

BUUUUUUUT

During one of those sessions where they sat in our scrim...

My pocket solly missed 4 rockets and all his shotgun shots on a SINGLE SCOUT before getting humiliated by said scout

Laughter ensured, lots and lots of laughter, teasing, noob calling.

My pocket got pretty affected or like we put it in our terms: "Wah that made me fucking sot sia."

I talked to him/her later but the damage was done.

-> but like that also angry ah, siao!!

I get that point but I think i writing too much already so what im trying to put across is that:

Sometimes getting teased or laughed at might all be in good fun but different people have different thresholds lor.

Do your best to be nice lor.

Knowing when to use positive reinforcement and when to fuck their shit up (be harsher) is key in my humble humble opinion.

MOVING ON

Then we have our day to day PUGS, i will do my best to sum them up so:

- SOME VETERANS/PLAYERS ARE REALLY NICE

They comm, verbally joke around, do calculated stupid things at times which lightens up the pug mood and gives us something to laugh about.

AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY GIVE TIPS: "rollout here cause they rollout from there so we counter fuck their shit" "dude take crates man can see things better" "eh we got uber/player advantage so we get buff and rape ok?" "eh stay further back this postition lousy" "heal niggers in battle la walao heals on me plz"

"eh dude you arent ready for pugs yet" THEN ADDS THEM AND TALK TO THEM SIA LA

which is pretty good stuff even though they have to keep on reminding, good on them i want to meet yall irl and hi-5 yall serious (next time football i try join yall ^^)

- SOME PEOPLE AREN'T VERY NICE/ARE MEANIES

They insult your mother, ask you uninstall, ask you gtfo go back to pubs, always complain when they die then scold like macham they follow SOP like that.

But hey guys, hey, do your best to be nice :')

I understand how people were not spoon feeded last time, youtube was noob and ultimately you guys had it worst.

So, maybe try being nice and helpful, point out mistakes, but if they try stepping over your head or just being straight up obnoxious then you give them your mandingo penis and get into their anus (thrash talking abit can la just note that some people aren't that mentally strong when verbally attacked)

What makes me damn sian is when our med doesnt know how to play pug/little experience/new/idkhowthesepeoplegethere, then suay suay some player will go like "our med doesn't know how to play lol gg end us ok brb i go play pyro/sniper/spy until game end im swagmaestro"

- Offclassing

Makes me :( in real life sometimes when i see people offclass to mid even when we getting rape but I really don't have any constructive opinions so i stfu

Ok so just some thoughts to end it uppppp:

BE NICE and stay true.

I know it might be penis scratchingly frustrating when people do or say weird/funny things in pugs or are just being plain up cunts but tahan ok be nice to everybody, if they not nice back to you then fuck them ok.

Oh and also

IF PEOPLE DONT LIKE YOU - YOU GET VOTEKICKED - GET SCOLDED - "EH CB WHY YOU DO THIS STUPID PANTAT NOBO!!!!!!!!!!"

They're probably doing it for a reason, so don't give them something to dislike you for. (or at least work on your attitute/gameplay whatsoever so they can't rain hell fire onto you, which is what i had in mind after my first pug)

TL;DR - i'm really grateful to those that helped my team and I, seeing veterans help the newer, less experienced players give me a happy erection. But some people are just obnoxious and huge assholes so just ignore/ban them lor. Good vibes means good things.

the last PS got me. HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS THINKING THAT IT WAS HIM CHRIS?! PSYCHIC!

/sigh

don't like that la candice

edit;

fundamentally, i think the problem lies not just with the veterans being ragey at "newbies", but also 'said "newbies" ' (not all i know) being reluctant to learn from mistakes. while getting everyone into mumble is a good solution to boosting teamplay/comms etc, it doesn't serve its purpose wholly if people don't understand the rationale behind jumping into mumble and just talking. what i mean is, you gotta kinda inculcate the mumblyness (like googlyness!) into them yeah? don't force them into mumble because when you force someone to conform to something, they kinda do it reluctantly (because they want to play) and then maybe they won't see the bigger picture of mumbling!

that being said though, it remains undeniable that teamplay/comms is ideal in any 6s situation. for me, i don't make the effort to go to mumble for PUGs (which i do here and there few weeks back, not anymore), but instead i just spam team comms because well mumble lags my com and my fps drops significantly (resulting in worse aim than already so) - then i realise some people cannot hear my ingame comms due to them being on mumble (till now i still cannot comprehend why). -- maybe this is a valid reason for them not coming to mumble???? just a thought of course.

to newbies: please, please understand that newbies isn't a derogatory term coined by us veterans to talk to you in a condescending tone. do understand that you are relatively new to the game, (i say relative because some of us have been around since 2008, for me it was 2009) we have seen changes over the years, with each batch of "newbies" that pop up and attempt competitive play, we do spot trends that seem to indicate a downward sloping curve interms of attitude and willingness to learn, however it doesn't mean that your bunch is a hopeless bunch because till today i do see players who have the potential to make it in highdiv2, possibly div1. (i don't like saying div 1 now because to me div 1 = whole of japan and korea.) what i'm trying to say here is, don't go into a pug thinking, "hey i'm real good i'm just here to fuck around." try going into a pug thinking, "what can i learn today?" or "hey ima try to die less than what- 10 times? as a medic today"

set realistic goals for yourself, and keep a good attitude. only reason why i bother posting here is because i used to love the game - i made some real good friends here (cue: adelante) and i would hate to see it die. but at the rate things are going, i'm sure most agree that the game is dying (i don't want it to)

to veterans: try to be more accommodating bah, i mean i know some of you have really tried your best in helping (summer, fuzz) - keep it up yeah? if the newer players really don't wanna listen, then just ignore i guess, no use raging! need herbal tea afterwards, now very expensive.

to cuteman: while i do acknowledge the changes you have made as an individual over the 3398 hours you have tf2-ed, mostly for the better, and acknowledge the improvements ffs has undergone as a team, if you do wanna consider going further in this scene, there's still a long long way ahead of you. all the best

.

to those "inbetweens": please make the effort to find a team, and stick to it. please. i hated the days when i had to scrim allstars every fuckin day because having to demo against summer was the most harrowing experience ever. also, don't make a team just for the sake of a tourney. don't disband after a tourney. make roster changes, sure - 1 or 2 is fine. don't disband and reband and rubberband all over again! nothing is more satisfying than joining/making a team, training, seeing improvements and ultimately achieving something - trust me.

sorry for this unwarranted long wall of text, but i thought it was necessary.

everyone just chill yeah

god dayum since when did asiafortress forums become a battlefield

some of you have opinions that are way too generalised

IMO i dont think that just because you had to experience getting scolded and insulted doesnt mean you have to do it to the newcomers.

when I first started I was shit too and there were no guides and no mentors, so I learned on my own like everyone else

you guys have mentors and tons of guides now, but you newbies (the ones who are complaining at least) don't appreciate

I don't specially treat new players nice not because I'm the kind of person to think 'oh boohoo i was mistreated when i first started too so now u must too' (neither do I specially mistreat them) but because some of you have the mentality that veterans must help the new players, not doing so suddenly makes me a bad guy

-beeg paragraph gap so you know is new point that is not referring to what owen said-

as for the veterans raging at new players, veterans ONLY do this when you're doing shit and not bothering to listen (otherwise they're just in a bad mood and need some anger management classes)

but for the dicks insulting new players for no reason, they aren't actually veterans

those are the people stuck at their current skill level because they've hit a plateau and are so comfortable with where they are that they have no intention of improving

they surround themselves with lower level players to increase their e-dick levels and constantly insult others who are worse than them

there's nothing we can do about these people, they're just there because this is life

though if you REALLY want to see something done about them, there's one simple solution

host a LAN and fite him irl

I guess some of the foreigners like creep or bongera are usually quite open to scrimming? I've asked them as late as 11 on fri/sat nights and they agreed... Also don't bother with the Australians unless you know the really friendly ones (def not termo or kaki), even then it's impossible to get a game because of the 3 hour time difference

Fk i'm available EVERY friday and usually saturday nights if you're really keen we can set up weeklies

Next week cannot though got field camp which includes ex wanderer fff

I enjoy your mix scrims cuteman, definitely admire the effort. I think one step extra we could take to help each other is to point out mistakes to each other. Since we know each other well it shouldn't be too hard.

Anyone , just anyone even the newer players learning can make friends with us and make a mix of the newer and better players. Anyone. I don't see any initiatives yet so far but its an idea for you people out there.
