IMPORTANT: Changes in AF PUG Servers

    Shounic

    Greetings AsiaFortress community!

Today we will be rolling out a new experimental change to the chat system and rules in our PUG servers.

Effective from this post, all text chat will be disabled when the PUG goes live. Text chat will remain enabled during warmup, setup and post-game.

Chat will be fully enabled at all times during Scrim Mode.

Additionally, Mumble is now compulsory for PUGs. Refusal to join the designated Mumble channels may result in a kick from the PUG for someone else to take the player slot, and continual refusal may lead to escalated penalties.

If you are a new player who does not know how to use Mumble, follow this guide to install and set up Mumble.

After you have installed Mumble, you may click on these links to be automatically moved to the server and designated channels.

    Server 1 (RED | BLU | SPEC)

    Server 2 (RED | BLU | SPEC)

    Server 3 (RED | BLU | SPEC)

    Server 4 (RED | BLU | SPEC)

    Server 5 (RED | BLU | SPEC)

Feedback may be provided as a reply to this thread. We will be evaluating the results of this experimental change, taking all your feedback into account. Lastly, speaking of feedback, I have posted a thread in general discussion about possible future changes to the AsiaFortress Whitelist. You can see it here

    Thanks, and happy pugging!

In all honesty,  i feel that the compulsory mumble in designated pug channels is a step forward towards raising the level (albeit slowly)of play in pugs. It promotes a more fluid team  communication which in turn leads to better(most of the time) teamwork between players. Typing in team chat will always have a delay time. Also as Caldoran has mentioned before, new players will be able to socialise with the older players and also learn how to call,  what the different part of the maps are called and etc. So good job admins.

Disabling the text chat during live pugs is justifiable. It'll certainly stop people from being keyboard warriors. Players that wants their slot back can just ask for their slot back in mumble since mumble is compulsory. The only thing that im not entirely sure about is whether you can still !sub if the text chat is disabled. If this is still possible, then it's fine. Disabling the text chat isnt the best idea but you cant have the perfect solution which will please everyone and solve every problem.

As to everyone that is in some way talking about verbal abuse through text chat and now mumble, there'll always be verbal abuse. It can be reduced but not prevented. Not everyone is a nice person. Grow a thick skin and take the verbal abuse with a grain of salt.

TL;DR I got nothing better to do at 5 in the morning so I came here and saw this article and gave my opinion about it.

sometimes when people are in my room I can't say what happened on mumble or voice chat so my best bet is to type. Also when i want my spot back when I crash, I can't say that I want my spot back if that person is not in mumble because I can't type in chat. Chat is a really important thing that helps some things happen in game and is pretty important for quick calls because things may get drowned in mumble.

Also commands like vm, !sub, !replace also say that I should join mumble which is pretty weird

    Hi coconut,

Text chat not working for Spectator is a glitch that will be addressed as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your feedback.

For everyone who has said that new players will receive verbal abuse instead of text abuse, this is the way I see it; people are more likely to actually say things that are useful(maybe accompanied by insults) rather than just typing out rubbish.

Why? Because when forced to use mumble, people are bound to at least try and provide constructive criticism in the interests of it helping their win chances.

Played a fair bit of pugs, the mumble rule isn't enforced very consistently. Some sort of authority has to be around, I think, or some of them won't bother. And they either ignore or don't respond when you ask them to join. Also, people just want the game to start, so they don't really care if not everyone's on mumble. Is there a way to make this better?

Disabling the chat seems more of an inconvenience, especially if someone not on mumble replaces another player. There is no way for you to tell them to join and the in-game voice chat doesn't seem to be working. (Let us taunt gene again :()

I played like 3-4 pugs with this rule. The chat removal is really annoying. esp when your players aren't fully in mumble and you want to switch classes, ask them to get back etc.

Some get into mumble for the sake of it and not talk, not respond to anything and I see one or two deafen and mute themselves? How can this be addressed?

in the end it's up to the players to enforce these rules. Votekick the player who doesn't want to join mumble or let the pug die. If someone's not joining mumble you can simply not ready up as well. The last thing a non-admin can do is note down the players (with steamID) who aren't in mumble and I will ban them.

Voice chat is intentionally disabled. People who substitute should be joining mumble. I will be critical of anyone who ignores the rules (and probably give them un-proportionally large punishment).

The hope is that people will realize the need to communicate and join mumble. Saying that your mic is broken or you don't have one is not even an excuse. At least join mumble to hear what your other team mates have to say.

Then that's your problem, they're not in mumble. Get them into mumble and there won't be issues.

If anyone reports players who join and deaf, I will ban them. If you don't want to hear a particular person you can local mute them, but I want to encourage players to be courteous to others to avoid having to mute each other.
