Please welcome Shounic and And(rew) to the AsiaFortress admin team! They will be assisting with various things, from running events to server administration and community interaction.

We will be attempting to keep the community more informed about ongoing internal discussion from time to time.

 

Seeing the demand for weapon unlocks, our admin team has come up with 6 choices for the community. Please vote in the topic poll. The unlocks with the three highest votes will be added to the whitelist.

 

Lastly, we've also brain-stormed for some fairly definitive rules to deal with off-classing situations and complaints. Suggestions are also welcome.

 

Both the off-classing guidelines and whitelist will be implemented shortly.

I have a suggestion for the excessive off-classing topic :3

 

Have a report thread where players can put in names to those who have excessive off-class syndrome.... And of course there would be the need to submit a demo showing their excessive off-classing as evidence. That way the cant say: No i didnt do that at all

A thread is a good idea for complaints, and the guidelines we have in mind make it reasonably simple for someone complaining about an off-classer, but we'll primarily be checkings logs and not demos.

 

Strange weapons will be allowed as soon as the whitelist is updated.

I can't believe people are voting winger over the flaregun. That shit makes pyro viable at range and can one shot scouts on fire man! How often are you going to pull out your winger?

 

Besides the flaregun has a much higher skill ceiling and frag video worthy potential. More skill and more entertainment makes comp gaming comp.

Don't you think it's pretty silly that the pyro is gifted crits though? Like even mini-crits would be okay, but I feel the pyro's crit happy weapons are badly balanced. iirc it does 90 dmg on crit. Sounds pretty unfair imo. other than the sniper rifle this flare gun can do more damage than other weapons at range. This is just my opinion though, and Winger still seems more fun to play with.

 

I personally have a hope that the asian scene can make one of these 'weird' unlocks one of our own. Maybe one of us will find some crazy game changing tactic with the winger. who knows???? You should think about how Winger would affect taking positions on mids, and how teams can work around that.

Flare gun's balanced pretty fairly with the shotgun for the pyro imo

 

First of all, it's a projectile, which means, unlike sniper shots, they're technically dodgeable at the 'far range' it gives the pyro. It's also 90 damage wherever it hits, and to look at it realistically, how much damage would a direct pipe do if it manages to hit you at whatever range?

 

Next, you also have to be on fire to be hit for 90 damage. How close do you have to be to the pyro to be set on fire, outside of the flare gun?

 

In a spam/stalemate situation, just grab health or heals if you're ever hit with a flare. Standing in a pyro's sightline while on fire is even dumber than standing in a sniper's sightline.

 

So you might argue, what about situations when you have to walk into a pyro's flamethrower? Surely the burn and flare is op crit happy?

Well no, at that range, basically everything except spy and medic can do a burst 90 damage or more. Meatshots from scouts, direct rockets, stickies, pipes, even a shotgun with all pellets hitting does 90 damage.

 

If you die to a pyro in a 6v6 setting, you probably would have to any other cookie-cutter class.

 

Anyway, I didn't vote flare gun because it would probably encourage unnecessary offclassing more at this stage, and also because it might be too radical for some to handle at this point.

Flaregun pyro without the degreaser and its 65% weapon switch is depressing. :( Using the shotgun alone would outdps and outburst the flaregun anyway since we don't have the luxury of 65% weapon switch!! :D

yeah i agree. But I don't want to start a massive debate, it was just my opinion on how uncreative valve decided to buff pyro. I don't honestly mind it that much because it's not used that often and it'll be nice to see sick clutch crit flares to save last. It's just that it seems the entire idea behind the pyro itself - closed range specialist is flawed in the first place and it's hard to fix it.

Yeah I agree that valve messed up pyro's balance a lot. It's just that I really feel the flare gun is one of the more closely balanced yet different unlocks that valve has come up with, and not really 'OP'.

 

Like with the gunboats or kritzkrieg, rather than say the pistol and pre-buff winger, which were just % changes.

The reasoning behind people wanting to see the winger is because you're going to be running scout far more than pyro.

 

Regardless, pretty much the most entertaining pyro skill, and one with the highest skill ceiling by far is reflect-rocket-jumping over to someone and then axtinguishing them. Of course, I could count the number of people within the Asian competitive scene capable of doing this often enough to be effective on one hand.

any unlocks should not

  • slow down/stall the pace of the game
  • 1 hit kill the medic without significant tradeoffs
  • remove punishments for bad positioning/play

and a whole lot of other things to consider. it is not just about weapon balance / purchasable sets / variety. we also do not jump the gun and blindly follow other league unlocks (esea with their sydney sleeper/quick-fix) for example.
